Objectives
THE CLASS AIMS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE KNOWLEDGE RELATING TO THE RULES OF NOMENCLATURE AND THE CHEMICAL-PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MAIN FUNCTIONAL GROUPS OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS. THE COURSE ALSO AIMS TO PROVIDE THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPLES GUIDING THE ORGANIC REACTIONS AND LEADING TO THE CORRECT INTERPRETATION OF REACTION MECHANISMS. ANOTHER OBJECTIVE IS TO PROMOTE THE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE THREE-DIMENSIONAL ASPECTS RELATED TO STATIC AND DYNAMIC STEREOCHEMISTRY.
AT THE END OF THE CLASS STUDENTS WILL GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF:

AT THE END OF THE CLASS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-CRITICALLY DISCUSS THE REACTION MECHANISMS
-SOLVE PROBLEMS CONCERNING
THE SYNTHESIS OF SIMPLE ORGANIC MOLECULES.

IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND AND KNOW HOW TO APPLY MOST OF THE TOPICS COVERED IN TEACHING, THE STUDENT MUST PASS THE EXAMINATION OF GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY

THE CLASS INCLUDES 80 HOURS OF TEACHING ACTIVITY AND 16 HOURS PRACTICE ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF EXERCISES ON THE MAIN TOPICS.

IUPAC NOMENCLATURE RULES OF ORGANIC COMPOUND, ACID-BASE REACTIONS (2 HOURS)
STRUCTURE, GENERAL PROPERTIES, SYNTHETIC METHODS AND REACTIVITY OF THE MAIN ORGANIC COMPOUND CLASSES: ALKANES AND CYCLOALKANES (8 HOURS), ALKENES (6 HOURS), ALKYNES (4 HOURS), CONJUGATED UNSATURATED SYSTEMS (4 HOURS), AROMATIC COMPOUNDS (12 HOURS), HALOGENATED COMPUNDS (6 HOURS), ORGANOMETALLICS (2 HOURS), ALCOHOLS, FENOLS, ETHERS (6 HOURS), CARBONYL COMPOUNDS (8 HOUR), CARBOXYLIC ACIDS AND FUNCTIONAL DERIVATIVES (8 HOURS), AMINES (4 HOURS), BETA-DICARBONYLIC COMPOUNDS (4 HOURS), HETEROCYCLES (2 HOURS), CARBOHYDRATES (2 HOURS).
STEREOCHEMISTRY AND REACTION MECHANISMS
Teaching Methods
THE CLASS INCLUDES 96 HOURS (12CFU) OF TEACHING PLANNED IN 80 HOURS OF FRONTAL LESSONS AND 16 HOURS OF TRAINING EXERCISES, DURING WHICH STUDENTS PERFORM EXERCISES ON THE DISCUSSED TOPICS. PARTECIPATION TO THE CLASS ACTIVITIES (TEACHING AND PRACTICE) IS MANDATORY.
IN ORDER TO BE ALLOWED TO THE FINAL EXAMINATION, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE TEACHING HOURS. CLASS ATTENDANCE IS CHECKED BY BADGE ELECTRONIC DETECTION
Verification of learning
THE EXAM IS COMPOSED BY A WRITING TEST AND AN ORAL TEST. THE WRITTEN TEST IS PREPARATORY TO THE ORAL TEST AND CONSISTS IN A TEST CONCERNING THE PROGRAM OF TEACHING. THE WRITTEN TEST IS CARRIED OUT BEFORE THE ORAL TEST AND IS CONSIDERED PASSED WITH THE REACHING OF A MINIMUM PREDETERMINED THRESHOLD (22/40), FIXED THROUGH AN APPROPRIATE EVALUATION GRID. THE WRITTEN TEST WILL LAST FOR TWO HOURS AND CONSISTS OF 3 NOMENCLATURE EXERCISES (6 POINTS), 1 EXERCISE ON STEREOCHEMISTRY (4 POINTS), 5 EXERCISES ON THE REACTIVITY OF FUNCTIONAL GROUPS (10 POINTS), 2 EXERCISES ON MULTISTEPS ORGANIC SYNTHESIS (10 POINTS), 2 EXERCISES ON REACTION MECHANISMS (10 POINTS). THE ORAL TEST, LASTING 30 MINUTES, CONSISTS IN A DISCUSSION ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE PROGRAM OF TEACHING. THE FINAL EVALUATION, RANGING FROM 18 TO 30, IS BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THE WRITTEN AND ORAL TEST.
