THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE: -KNOWLEDGE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ASPECTS OF 16TH AND 17TH CENTURY ENGLISH LITERATURE AND CULTURE, FOCUSING IN PARTICULAR ON THE THEATRE; - METHODOLOGIES OF ANALYSIS OF THE LITERARY TEXT. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO: -ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF 16TH AND 17TH CENTURY CULTURAL CONTEXT AND LITERARY WORKS; -UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEXT AND CONTEXT; - ACQUIRE THE TOOLS OF TEXTUAL ANALYSIS ALSO APPLIED TO THE THEATRE APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: -CONTEXTUALISE THE LITERARY TEXT AND RELATE IT TO OTHER TEXTS BELONGING TO THE SAME CULTURAL CONTEXT; -COMPARE THE TEXT WITH OTHER TEXTS BELONGING TO DIFFERENT CULTURES; -ANALYSE THE FORM AND THE STYLE OF THE LITERARY TEXT; -PROVIDE A GENERAL OUTLINE OF THE LITERATURE AND CULTURE OF THE PERIOD; - DEVELOP A CRITICAL DISCOURSE MASTERING THE LANGUAGE OF THE DISCIPLINE BOTH IN ITALIAN AND IN ENGLISH. MAKING JUDGEMENTS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: -INTERPRET THE LITERARY TEXT AND FORMULATE AUTONOMOUS JUDGEMENTS ON ITS AESTHETIC VALUE; -SELECT THE CRITICAL APPROACHES APPROPRIATE TO THE TEXT; -SELECT BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE TEXTS BELONGING TO DIFFERENT CULTURAL CONTEXTS COMMUNICATION SKILLS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE THE NOTIONS ACQUIRED AND THEIR PERSONAL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ON SUBJECT APPROPRIATELY, BOTH IN ITALIAN AND IN ENGLISH. THE COURSE AIMS TO STUDY THE MAIN EXPRESSIONS OF ENGLISH LITERARY CULTURE DURING THE TUDOR AND JACOBEAN PERIOD, WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON ELIZABETHAN THEATRE AND ON SHAKESPEARE'S DRAMATIC PRODUCTION. THE LOVE TRAGEDIES "ROMEO AND JULIET" AND "ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA" WILL BE READ AND ANALISED .
