Ciro APREA Curriculum

He graduated with honours in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II, and is currently a full professor in the field of "Industrial Technical Physics". His research interests concern the experimental evaluation of the energy performance of compression refrigeration plants operating with low environmental impact fluids, the experimental evaluation of heat transfer coefficients in the evaporation and condensation of non-azeotropic mixtures in vapour compression plants, the modelling of air evaporators and condensers in the presence of non-azeotropic mixtures, the experimental evaluation of the performance of mechanical and electronic expansion systems in compression refrigeration plants in the presence of losses of non-azeotropic mixtures, the analytical, numerical and experimental study of fast transients in air evaporators the experimental analysis of innovative systems for the control of cooling capacity in vapour compression plants and the development of appropriate algorithms, self-cascade refrigeration systems for reaching very low temperatures down to -150°C (design, experimental analysis of performance and definition of the evolving mixture of the HFC type) experimental performance analysis of transcritical vapour compression refrigeration cycles operating with carbon dioxide as the working fluid, refrigeration cycles based on the magnetocaloric effect and, in general, solid-state refrigeration, use of phase change materials (PCM) in refrigeration, refrigerated transport. He is the author of more than 170 papers published both in international journals and in proceedings of international conferences. He currently teaches courses in Energetics, Refrigeration Technology and Air Conditioning Systems. He is the scientific coordinator of research projects and is responsible for several research agreements with companies including RC Condizionatori, Pavia - Angelantoni Industrie, Massa Martana (PG) - Denso Thermal System, Poirino (TO) - Telecom Italia, Rome, Leonardo Sistemi Avionici e Spaziali. He is a reviewer of scientific articles for, among others, the journals "Applied Thermal Engineering", "International Journal of Refrigeration", "Energy", "Applied Energy", "International Journal of Thermal Sciences", "Energy Conversion and Management", "Heat and Mass Transfer". He is a member of the Editorial Board of the international journals 'Entropy' and 'Journal of Energy'. He is the author of four national patents and one international patent for industrial invention. He is a Senior Officer in the Selected Reserve of the Italian Army. He is a consultant to the Ministry of Defence. He is a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. His name is indexed on the primary scientific databases (Scopus , ORCID, Google Scholar).
