THE COURSE WILL PROVIDE TO STUDENTS KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS FOR A BASE TRAINING IN ECONOMIC HISTORY BY LEARNING SPECIFIC MAIN THEMES ABOUT EVOLUTIONARY SCENERY OF CAPITALIST ECONOMIES. THE THEMES OF AGRICULTURE, PUBLIC DEBT, STATE FINANCE, SECONDARY SECTOR, TRADE, TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS, PUBLIC INTERVENTION AND BANKS ARE OF PARTICULAR ANALYTICAL IMPORTANCE. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS OF GENERAL LINES OF ECONOMIC HISTORY, IN ORDER TO INTERPRET, IN A LONG-TERM PERSPECTIVE, THE MAIN MACROECONOMIC PHENOMENA IN RELATION TO BUSINESS CYCLES, ECONOMIC GROWTH PROCESSES, DEVELOPMENT MODELS OF CAPITALIST ECONOMIES, CHANGES IN THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATION PROCESS, GLOBALISATION. THE STUDENT ACHIEVES ABILITY TO INTERPRET IN AN INDIPENDENT WAY ECONOMIC PHENOMENA AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE. THE STUDENT ACHIEVES COMMUNICATION SKILL TO EXPRESS IN A CLEAR AND SUPPORTED WAY INFORMATION, IDEAS PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS LINKED TO THE STUDY OF DEVELOPEMENT AND GROWTH MODELS IN THEIR HISTORIC EVOLUTION. THE STUDENT ACHIEVES FIT SKILLS TO DESCRIBE, INTERPRET AND REPRESENT ENTREPRENEURIAL AND MICRO AND MACROECONOMIC PROBLEMS TO INTERLOCUTORS (QUALIFIED OR NOT). THE STUDENT - BASING ON METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH AND ECONOMIC HISTORY ANALYSIS – IS ABLE TO USE LOGICAL REASONING AND CRITICALLY EVALUATE DIFERENT ECONOMIC DEVELOPEMENT MODELS AND THEIR EVOLUTION IN TERMS OF PATH DEPENDANCE. |

(2 HOURS) - MODERN EUROPE AS AN INTEGRATED ECONOMIC SYSTEM (6 HOURS) - EUROPEAN EXPANSION IN THE 16TH CENTURY: THE OLD CONTINENT AND NEW ECONOMIC SPACES. (6 HOURS) - EUROPE IN THE LONG 17TH CENTURY BETWEEN CRISIS AND NEW BALANCES. MERCANTILIST POLICIES. (6 HOURS) - CONTINUITIES AND DIVERGENCES IN 18TH CENTURY GROWTH. BETWEEN EXPANSION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. THE FIRST INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION. THE NAPOLEONIC AGE. (8 HOURS) - EUROPEAN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE 19TH CENTURY. FROM THE FIRST TO THE SECOND INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION. BANKING SYSTEMS AND THE GOLD STANDARD. (10 HOURS) - THE ITALIAN ECONOMY. FROM POLITICAL UNIFICATION TO THE TAKE-OFF; FASCISM AND “ENTREPRENEURIAL STATE”. (10 HOURS) - THE 20TH CENTURY BETWEEN CRISIS AND PROSPERITY. RECONSTRUCTION AFTER BRETTON WOODS. GOLDEN AGE AND EUROPEAN INTEGRATION. FROM OIL CRISES TO GLOBALIZATION. (10 HOURS) (B) SPECIAL PART: COMPARATIVE FOCUS ON BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY IN SOUTHERN ITALY AND IN THE PROVINCE OF SALERNO IN THE 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES. (4 HOURS) |

THE COURSE IS BASED ON 60 HOURS OF FRONTAL LESSONS THAT MAY INCLUDE SEMINAR ACTIVITIES AND DISCUSSIONS OF CASE STUDIES. THE FREQUENCY OF THE COURSE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED AND WILL BE PERIODICALLY MONITORED. |

THE COURSE PROVIDES AN ORAL EXAM, IN ORDER TO CHECK THE STUDENT'S CAPACITY TO CRITICALLY AND DIACRONICALLY ANALYZE THE MAIN SOCIO-ECONOMIC PHENOMENON STUDIED, IN DIFFERENT TERRITORIAL CONTESTS AND IN DIFFERENT PHASES OF WORLD ECONOMIC HISTORY. THE ORAL EXAM HAS A DURATION OF ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES AND IS BASED ON A SET OF SPECIFIC QUESTIONS TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND COMPLETION CAPABILITY REACHED BY THE STUDENT. THE FINAL EXAM WILL ALSO CHECK THE EXPOSURE CAPABILITY OF THE STUDENT TO USE THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND THE CAPACITY TO ORGANIZE AUTONOMOUSLY HIS/HER PRESENTATION. THE EVALUATION WILL BE EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS. THE MINIMUM LEVEL OF EVALUATION (18) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT HAS A FRAGMENTED KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS AND SHOWS A LIMITED ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF THE STUDY. THE MAXIMUM LEVEL (30) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND HAS A CONSIDERABLE ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF STUDY. PRAISE IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND SHOWS REMARKABLE OWNERSHIP OF LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING SKILLS EVEN IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER. IN THE FINAL PART OF THE COURSE THERE IS A WRITTEN VERIFICATION TEST (ABOUT 45 MINUTES). FOR STUDENTS WHO TAKE IT, THE FINAL EVALUATION IS OBTAINED AS THE AVERAGE OF THE PARTIAL EVALUATIONS (WRITTEN TEST AND ORAL EXAMINATION). |
