Objectives
THE COURSE FOCUSES ON ISSUES CONCERNING THE SYNTAX-LEXICON INTERFACE. STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE ABOUT STRUCTURAL AND DISTRIBUTIONAL ANALYSIS METHODOLOGIES. THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ANALYZE THE ARGUMENT STRUCTURE OF ITALIAN PREDICATES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

THE STUDENTS WILL:
- ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CLASSIFICATION PRINCIPLES OF ITALIAN VERBAL PREDICATES;
- EXAMINE THE DIFFERENT CRITERIA OF ANALYSIS: STRUCTURAL, DISTRIBUTIONAL, TRANSFORMATIONAL;
- DEVELOP THE SKILLS RELATED TO THE SEGMENTATION OF A TEXT AND THE IDENTIFICATION OF INFORMATION UNITS.


ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- CONDUCT LINGUISTIC ANALYSES OF ITALIAN ON THE BASIS OF HARRIS' OPERATOR-GRAMMAR;
- APPLY THE CLASSIFICATION OF ITALIAN VERBS TO THE LINGUISTIC DATA ADOPTING THE LEXICON-GRAMMAR METHODOLOGY (GROSS);
- IDENTIFY THE SUBSETS OF VERBS ON THE BASIS OF SYNTACTIC AND ASPECTUAL PROPERTIES;


JUDGMENT AUTONOMY

STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- DETECT THE CLASSIFICATION PRINCIPLES OF VARIOUS OBJECTS OF ANALYSIS;
- VERIFY AND TEST VARIOUS HYPOTHESES ON EMPIRICAL DATA:
- EVALUATE THE DESCRIPTIVE ADEQUACY OF A GIVEN METHODOLOGY;
- DEVELOP CRITICAL SKILLS RELATED TO DIFFERENT THEORETICAL MODELS.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS

STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- COMMUNICATE THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSES:
- BUILD EFFICACIOUS PRESENTATIONS IDENTIFYING THE KEY CONCEPTS;
- DEVELOP THE PROXEMIC SKILLS NEEDED FOR PUBLIC SPEAKING.


LEARNING ABILITY

STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- CONSTRUCT COMPARATIVE ANALYSES WITHIN DISTINCT SCIENTIFIC AREAS;
- APPLY THE DATA VERIFICATION AND TESTING PROCEDURES;
- STRUCTURE A PAPER ON A SPECIFIC TOPIC, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE LITERATURE, ITS KEY POINTS, AND THE PRESENTATION OF INNOVATIVE ELEMENTS.

Prerequisites
IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO HAVE PASSED THE EXAM OF LINGUISTICA I.

FRONTAL LESSONS
Verification of learning
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL TAKE A WRITTEN AND/OR AN ORAL EXAM, AIMED AT ASSESSING THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF THE LEXICAL AND SYNTACTIC ANALYSIS, FOCUSING ON THE LEXICON-GRAMMAR METHODOLOGY (GROSS) AND TO THE OPERATOR-GRAMMAR (HARRIS).
IN PARTICULAR, THE EXAM WILL TAKE PLACE AS FOLLOWS. STUDENTS WHO FAIL THE WRITTEN TEST TWICE WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE ORAL EXAM.
