Ciro CALIENDO Curriculum
Ciro Caliendo was awarded a doctoral degree in Transportation Civil Engineering with full marks from the University of Naples in 1987. From 1992 to 2001, he was a researcher at the Department of Transportation of the University of Naples. From 1996 to 2001, he was also a fixed-term lecturer at the University of Salerno. Since 2001, he has been an associate professor in “Roads, railways and airports” at the University of Salerno. He is Full Professor from January 2018. He began working on the research theme of the road at the Department of Transportation Engineering of the University of Naples in 1988. Since 1992, he has been a member of the Italian Committee of World Road Association. Since 1996, he has been also a member of UNI (Standard Italian Organization). Since 2002, he has been the scientific responsible of research projects (MURST 60%, FARB, Transport Competence Centre). He has been a member of the working groups of research projects: CNR-PFT2, PRIN, SITI (Safety in Intelligent Tunnels), GANESH, SFERE (Railway Systems). He is a member of IRF (International Road Federation) Group of Experts on Road Safety and member of IRF Environment Committee. He is a reviewer of International Journals including: Accident Analysis and Prevention (Elsevier), Journal of Transportation Engineering (ASCE),Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting, Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology. His research activities are: road materials; structural behaviour of road, railway and airport pavements; road geometry, road embankments, road safety, traffic micro-simulation and road tunnels. He is author of 104 papers that have been published in International and National Journals, Proceedings of International and Italian Conferences, books, and scientific reports. He teaches “Roads, Railways and Airports I” for the first level degree both in Civil Engineering and in Environment and Civil Engineering, as well as he teaches “Roads, Railways and Airports II “ for the second level degree in Civil Engineering. He teaches also "Risk in Infrastructures" for the PHD Course on "Risk and Sustainability in Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Systems" . He is Editorial Member of International Journals as: "Accident, Analysis and Prevention"; and "International Journal of Civil Engineering Research". He is also Guest Editor of the Special Issue "Risk Assessment in Traffic and Transportation" of Applied Sciences. Achievements: 1) Certificate of Oustanding Contribution in Reviewing awarded by "Accident Analysis and Prevention"; 2) Certificate of Oustanding Contribution in Reviewing awarded by "Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology"; 3) As Associate Member of the Technical Committee D.5 "Road Tunnel Operations" of the World Road Association, 4) As Corresponding Member of the Technical Committe on Terminology of the World Road Association. He is the Scientific Manager of the Laboratory of "Roads, Railways and Aiports".
