This teaching is aimed at obtaining knowledge and understanding of the biosynthetic approach to classify secondary metabolites of vegetable origin (such as phenols, terpenoids and alkaloids), of their biological activity, and of the quality control techniques of the herbal preparations. The student applying the acquired skills will have to be able to relate the structures and physico-chemical properties of the main groups of plant secondary metabolites to their biological properties. The student should be able to discuss some aspect of the herbal preparation quality control. |

WRITTEN PAPER : 5 EXTENTED RESPONSE QUESTIONS (2 HOURS ) REGARDING THE MAIN LEARNING OUTCOMES. THE ASSESSMENT OF THE SUCCESS OF THE EXAM BY MEANS OF SPECIFIC QUESTIONS, IT WILL BE DETERMINED WHETHER THE STUDENT HAS ACQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE COURSE CONTENTS, AND IF THE STUDENT GAINED THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND TO EXPLAIN THE MAIN BIOSYTNTHETIC PHATWAYS , AND HAS THE SKILLS TO RECOGNIZE AND DESCRIBE THE SECONDARY METABOLITE SIGNIFICANCE AND BIOACTIVITY .
