Objectives
THIS COURSE COVERS THE THEORICAL AND PRATICAL ASPECTS OF POLYMER PROCESSING AND USES OF MOST COMMON POLYMERIC MATERIALS. BESIDE SOME BASIC INFORMATION ON THE STRUCTURE-PROPERTY RELATIONSHIP IN POLYMERIC MATERIALS, THIS COURSE REPRESENTS AN INTRODUCTION TO POLYMER PROCESSING TECHNOLOGIES. MOREOVER FOR MOST OF THE MAIN POLYMER MATERIALS SYNTHESIS, PROPERTIES AND USES ARE PRESENTED
Prerequisites
IT WILL BE ASSUMED THAT ALL STUDENTS HAVE FOLLOWED AND COMPLETED, AS A PREREQUISITE, AN INTRODUCTION TO POLYMER MATERIAL COURSE (“CHEMISTRY OF MACROMOLECULES” OR EQUIVALENT).

1) INTRODUCTION TO POLYMERIC MATERIALS (BASIC CONCEPTS OF THE WORLD OF MACROMOLECULAR SUBSTANCES, DEFINITIONS, NOMENCLATURE AND CLASSIFICATION OF POLYMERS, SOLID STATE MORPHOLOGIES) 4 HOURS
2) PROPERTY-STRUCTURE RELATIONS IN POLYMERIC MATERIALS (INFLUENCE OF MOLECULAR MASS AND PHYSICAL STATE OF PHYSICAL PROPERTIES) 10 HOURS
3) VISCOELASTIC BEHAVIOR (MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR AND RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES) 6 HOURS
4) PROCESSES OF PROCESSING OF POLYMERIC MATERIALS (THERMOPLASTIC, THERMOSETTING, ELASTOMERIC, FIBER TRANSFORMATION PROCESSES) 16 HOURS
4) POLYMERS OF INDUSTRIAL INTEREST: CHARACTERISTICS, PREPARATION METHODS, APPLICATIONS (THERMOPLASTIC, THERMOSETTING, ELASTOMERS (SATURATED / UNSATURATED), POLYMERS FOR SYNTHETIC FIBERS, LACTIC AND VARNISHES) 16 HOURS

Verification of learning
ORAL TEST LASTING APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES.
EACH STUDENT WILL HAVE TO ANSWER A SERIES OF QUESTIONS (NOT LESS THAN 3) RELATING TO ALL THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE TEST IS TO VERIFY THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE EXISTING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF A POLYMERIC MATERIAL AND ITS CHEMICAL-STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS AND ITS ABILITY TO ASSOCIATE THE SPECIFIC CHEMICAL-PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A POLYMERIC MATERIAL OF INDUSTRIAL INTEREST WITH THE APPROPRIATE WORKING PROCESS
THE TEST IS PASSED WITH A SCORE GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 18 POINTS.
