KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT:
-THE MOST POPULAR COMPUTER APPLICATIONS FOR THE DIGITIZATION OF DOCUMENTS IN THE LITERARY AND COMMUNICATION FIELDS;
-THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PROTOCOLS USED IN THE ENCODING OF TEXTS IN BORN DIGITAL OR CONVERTED FROM ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL;
-THE THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF ECDOTICAL ANALYSIS ON THE VARIOUS TEXTUAL TYPOLOGIES PRESENT ON THE WEB;
-THE DIFFERENT CHARACTERISTICS OF FAKES NEWS;
-COMPUTER TOOLS AND METHODOLOGIES FOR THE USE OF DATABASES.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-DISCERN AND EVALUATE THE DIFFERENT TEXT TYPES FOUND ON THE WEB;
-COLLECT, ANALYZE, AND RECONSTRUCT SOURCES OF VARIOUS TYPES OF FAKES NEWS;
-MANAGE AND UPDATE DATABASES;
-DESIGN A BORN DIGITAL EDITION;
-PARTICIPATE IN OPERATIONAL PROJECTS, ALSO IN A MULTIDISCIPLINARY AND INTERDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO
- DEVELOP OR APPLY ORIGINAL ANALYSIS AND STUDY APPROACHES IN THE FIELD OF DIGITAL HUMANITIES SO AS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE ADVANCING STATE OF RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF DIGITAL PHILOLOGY.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO
-INTERVENE APPROPRIATELY AND KNOWLEDGEABLY IN THE VARIOUS CONTEXTS INHERENT IN THE FIELDS OF DIGITAL HUMANITIES IN A MANNER THAT IS APPROPRIATE TO THEIR GOALS AND NEEDS OF THEIR TARGET AUDIENCE.

LEARNING SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO
-APPLY THE METHODOLOGICAL SKILLS ACQUIRED IN THE FIELD OF DIGITAL PHILOLOGY TO UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE;;
-DEVELOP AN APTITUDE FOR CRITICAL PROCESSING AND RESEARCH IN THE AREAS OF DIGITAL HUMANITIES.
Prerequisites
THE DISCIPLINE REQUIRES A KNOWLEDGE, ALBEIT BASIC, OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ECDOTICS SO TO ACCESS THE COURSE THE STUDENT MUST HAVE PASSED THE EXAM OF ROMANCE PHILOLOGY (ADVANCED) OR ANOTHER EXAM OF PHILOLOGY THAT MEETS THE REQUIRED REQUIREMENTS.
Contents
THE COURSE AIMS TO SHARPEN THE LEARNER'S CRITICAL SKILLS IN THE EVALUATION OF THE MOST WIDELY USED CULTURAL PRODUCTS IN THE HUMANITIES THAT FALL WITHIN THE VAST PANORAMA OF THE DIGITAL HUMANITIES: FROM THE RECOGNITION OF FAKES NEWS AND FALSE LITERARY TEXTS, TO THE STRUCTURING OF A DIGITAL CRITICAL EDITION, TO THE USE OF DATABASES. THE ACQUISITION OF NEW SKILLS IN THE DIGITAL FIELD WILL ENABLE STUDENTS NOT ONLY TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE MOST WIDELY USED SOFTWARE IN EACH FIELD OF INVESTIGATION, BUT ALSO TO LEARN THE DESIGN STAGES FOR CREATING A QUALITY CULTURAL PRODUCT.
STUDENTS WILL ALSO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FOLLOW AN ONLINE COURSE ORGANISED BY THE UNIVERSITY'S ICT.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE IS FORMED OF TWO PARTS. THE FIRST WILL BE MAINLY THEORETICAL AND BASED ON ACQUIRING THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF EDITING TEXTS, THE LANGUAGES USED FOR CODIFYING TEXTS, XML SYNTAX AND THE GUIDELINES FOR USING TEI (TRANSKRIBUS). THE SECOND PART WILL DEAL WITH THE APPLICATION OF TEXT CODIFICATION TECHNIQUES AND THE METHODS USED IN CREATING AN ONLINE DICTIONARY.
Verification of learning
ATTAINMENT OF THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN ORAL EXAMINATION WITH A GRADE IN THIRTIETHS. FOR ATTENDING STUDENTS, THE ORAL EXAM INCLUDES THE PRESENTATION OF ONE OR MORE TECHNICAL PAPERS PREPARED DURING THE WORKSHOP EXERCISES SCHEDULED DURING THE COURSE, PRODUCED BY THE STUDENT AUTONOMOUSLY. AS A WHOLE, THE FINAL EXAM ENABLES THE STUDENT TO ASCERTAIN BOTH HIS OR HER CAPACITY OF KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION, AS WELL AS HIS OR HER LEVEL OF LEARNING AND APPLICATION OF THE PHILOLOGICAL AND COMPUTER SCIENCE METHODOLOGIES INCLUDED IN THE COURSE. AND TO PUT FORWARD CONJECTURES OR ELABORATE SOLUTIONS INDEPENDENTLY.
