Objectives
COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS TO DECODE THE LANGUAGE OF THE ANCIENT IMAGES BOTH STARTING FROM SOURCES OF DOCUMENTATION (FOR EXAMPLE LITERARY SOURCES) BOTH IN THE ABSENCE OF A DIRECT KNOWLEDGE OF CULTURAL REFERENCE SYSTEM, INTEGRATED BY THE RECENT ACQUISITIONS OF ARCHAEOLOGY. COURSE AIMS TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO DECODE THE ICONOGRAPHIC LANGUAGE IN PARTICULAR IN RELATIONS TO SPECIFIC EXEMPLES AND TO FIGURATIVE PROGRAMS IN MAIN CONTEXTS. THROUGH THE READING OF METHODOLOGICAL ESSAYS AND OF SPECIFIC FIGURATIVE PROGRAMS IT WILL DEVELOP THE KNOWLEDGE AND THE UNDERSTANDING OF ANCIENT FIGURATIVE PROGRAMS AND METHODOLOGY FOR APPLYING THE TOOLS TO SET ORIGINAL RESEARCH. ALSO IT WILL DEVELOP THE JUDGEMENT IN THE READING OF SCIENTIFIC PAPERS AND THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE THE FOREGROUND KNOWLEDGES.
Prerequisites
GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF ARCHAEOLOGY AND OF GREEK AND ROMAN HISTORY; ABILITY TO READ AND COMMENT ON HISTORICAL AND LITERARY TEXTS.
ABILITY TO READING FOREIGN LANGUAGES.

THROUGH THE READING OF ESSAYS AND TEXTS IT WILL BE ANALYZED SOME SIGNIFICANT ICONOGRAPHIC SERIES IN ORDER TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO USE CORRECTED METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS IN CONNECTION WITH IMAGES OF CORPORA CONSISTENT WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN IMAGES AND TEXTS. IT WILL ANALYZE THE PROBLEM OF PRODUCTION OF THE IMAGES AND RECEPTION IN OTHER CULTURAL CONTEXTS. THEREFORE IT WILL BE UNDERLINED THE READING OF SIGNIFICANT FIGURATIVE PROGRAMS IN PARTICULAR ARCHAEOLOGICAL CONTEXTS.
Teaching Methods
LESSONS DURING WHICH WILL BE SHOWN THE MAIN LITERATURE SUPPORT AND METHODS OF APPROACH, EVEN THROUGH THE USE OF COMPUTER STORAGE MEDIA (POWER POINT) AND WORKSHOPS WITH PROFESSORS AND EXTERNAL PHD RESEARCHER DURING WHICH STUDENTS WILL EXPERIENCE OF METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS.
Verification of learning
EXERCISES DURING THE COURSE; FINAL ORAL EXAMINATION BY VOTE DURING WHICH WILL TEST THE FOREGROUND KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF SPECIFIC PROBLEMS OF READING OF ANCIENT IMAGES; THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE METHODS OF RESEARCH IN ICONOGRAPHIAL READING; THE AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT TOWARDS THE BIBLIOGRAPHICAL SOURCES; ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE THE FOREGROUND KNOWLEDGE ABOUT FIGURATIVE PROGRAMS OF THE ANCIENT WORLD.
