THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO FOCUS ON PAINTING AND POTTERIES BETWEEN ETRURIA, MAGNA GRAECIA AND ITALIAN COMMUNITIES BETWEEN V AND IV. IN PARTICULAR, FROM THE MID-FIFTH CENTURY, LOCAL POTTERY PRODUCTIONS FIGURED IN MAGNA GRAECIA, ALTHOUGH GRAFTED INTO A TRADITION WIDESPREAD BY CONTEMPORARY ATTIC VASES, SEEM TO SOON FIND FURTHER EXPRESSION IN THE TRADITION, ALREADY WELL KNOWN IN ETRURIA, OF PAINTING THE BURIAL CHAMBERS, WHICH IT FINDS FERTILE GROUND AMONG THE ITALIC POPULATIONS ON BOTH THE ADRIATIC AND THE TYRRHENIAN COAST FOR THE ENTIRE FOURTH CENTURY STARTING FROM A FIRST COLLECTION OF THE PAINTED TOMBS KNOWN IN THE GREEK COLONIES AND IN THE INDIGENOUS CENTERS, COMPARED WITH THE FIGURES OF THE FIGURED POTTERY WORKSHOPS, WE WILL TRY TO RETURN AN OVERALL PICTURE, CALIBRATED FOR TERRITORIAL AREAS, FROM WHICH A FRAMEWORK OF KNOWLEDGE CAN EMERGE. TECHNIQUES AND STYLISTICS, AS WELL AS COMMON CODES OF COMPOSITION AND VISUAL, AND TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE CLIENTS AND WORKERS, VERIFYING THE CONTACT POINTS BETWEEN THE TWO FORMS OF ARTISTIC CRAFTSMANSHIP, MOREOVER DURING THE FOURTH CENTURY MORE AND MORE INFLUENCED BY MORE OR LESS DIRECT CONTACTS WITH MACEDONIA OR MEDIATED THROUGH TARANTO. IT WILL BE TOO INVESTIGATE THE ROLE PLAYED BY THE ARTISAN DISTRICTS INSIDE THE URBAN INSTALLATIONS OF BOTH GREEK AND ITALIAN CITIES, OR THE POSSIBILITY OF VERIFYING THE EXISTENCE OF ITINERANT WORKERS, AS IT HAS BEEN POSSIBLE RECENTLY TO HYPOTHESIZE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GREAT SANCTUARIES OF CAMPANIA AND LAZIO. AS FAR AS THE ADRIATIC AREA IS CONCERNED, DESPITE THE INHOMOGENEOUS DOCUMENTATION, RUVO, MONTE SANNACE, GRAVINA DI PUGLIA, CANOSA AND ARPI WILL BE INVESTIGATED. FOR THE TYRRHENIAN AREA WILL BE INVESTIGATED NAPLES, CUMA, CAPUA, PAESTUM AND PONTECAGNANO. AS FAR AS ETRURIA IS CONCERNED, THE MAIN DOCUMENTS OF THE TOMB PAINTING OF THE FIFTH AND FOURTH CENTURIES WILL BE EXAMINED.
