Anna Maria D’Ursi, (Salerno 01/02/1966) is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno.

Studies: Degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology achieved at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Naples, on the 24/7/1989, vote 110/110 cum laude.

Thesis in Inorganic Chemistry titled "NMR Conformational study of Leu-Enkefalin in biomimetic media". Supervisor Prof. Pierandrea Temussi. PhD in Chemical Sciences at University of Naples, in the group of Prof. Temussi. Thesis titled "NMR Structural Studies of Bovin Semen Ribonuclease ".

PhD activity involved collaboration with professor Hartmut Hoschinat at Max Plank institute für Biochimie of Munich in 1991 and at European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Heidelberg, Germany in 1993. From 1997 to 2002 she has been appointed Researcher at University of Salerno, where her research activity was focused on NMR conformational analysis of peptides involved in GPCR transduction, in Alzheimer disease and in Multiple sclerosis. In 2000 she was visiting professor at Leibniz-Institut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (Berlin).

Research activity of prof. D’Ursi  is presently focused on:

  • Spectroscopic study of b-amyloid peptide interaction with i) membrane mimicking systems ii) molecules able to modulate b-amyloid fibril formation.
  • Spectroscopic study of  viral-membrane fusion and design of molecules acting as virus entry inhibitors.
  • NMR study of interaction of new molecules targeting the farnesyl piriphosphate synthase (FPPS).

Grant Funding Experience: Prof. Anna Maria D’Ursi has been coordinator for the University of Salerno of the Italian "Progetto di Ricerca Scientifico di Rilevante Interesse Nazionale (PRIN, Research Project of Relevant National Interest) –
