Objectives | |

KNOWLEDGE OF INSTITUTIONS MEANT AS SYSTEMS OF RULES, EXPECTATIONS, NORMS AND ORGANIZATIONS. KNOWLEDGE OF PROBLEMS UNDERLYING THE PROVISION OF PUBLIC UTILITIES PAYING ATTENTION TO: -THE INFLUENCE OF THE INSTITUTIONAL SETUP; -LIBERALIZATION AND REGULATION OF PUBLIC UTILITIES BY PUBLIC AUTHORITIES. ABILITIES TO UNDERSTAND HOW INSTITUTIONAL SETUPS SHAPE PUBLIC INTERVENTION AND TO ASSESS DIFFERENT REGULATION MECHANISMS THROUGH A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS, BASED ON THE ANALYSIS OF CASE STUDIES AND SIMULATIONS. MAKING JUDGEMENTS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE FEATURES ALLOWING AN EFFICIENT ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES AND REQUIRING STATE INTERVENTION IN CASE OF MARKET FAILURES. COMMUNICATION SKILLS STUDENTS CAN COMMUNICATE INFORMATION, KNOWLEDGE, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS TO BOTH SPECIALIST AND NON SPECIALIST AUDIENCES. LEARNING SKILLS STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP THE ATTITUDE TO SEARCH FOR AND SELECT THE INFORMATION TO CONTEXTUALIZE AND UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEMS ANALYZED BY AUTONOMOUSLY AND CRITICALLY ASSESSING SOURCES. |

EACH MODULE CONSISTS OF 10 HOURS OF LECTURES AND 10 HOURS OF SEMINARS. AS SOME OF THE TOPICS ARE CHARACTERIZED BY A MATHEMATICAL APPROACH, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT STUDENTS ATTEND THE CLASS. STUDENTS IN GROUPS ARE EXPECTED TO READ AND PRESENT ARTICLES-ALSO IN ENGLISH- TO THE OTHERS BY USING POWER POINT. |

ORAL EXAMINATION TO TEST STUDENTS’ KNOWLEDGE AND THE ACHIEVED LEVEL OF EXPERTISE IN THE FIELD. IN PARTICULAR, THE AIM IS TO ASSESS WHETHER STUDENTS HAVE UNDERSTOOD MARKET FAILURES AND THE ROLE OF STATE INTERVENTION IN PROVIDING PUBLIC UTILITIES . GRADES ARE ON A BASE OF 30. THE MINIMUM GRADE TO PASS THE EXAM IS 18/30. |
