Objectives
THE TEACHING AIMS TO GIVE STUDENTS A KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL VOCABULARY OF SOCIOLOGY AND OF THE THEMES/AREAS OF APPLICATION OF SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS THAT ARE CONNECTED TO THE DEFINING CONCEPTS. IN THIS WAY THE TEACHING AIMS TO OFFER STUDENTS THE TOOLS TO UNDERTAKE THE OBSERVATION OF SOCIAL REALITY FROM A SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE, THROUGH THE USE OF AN ADEQUATE VOCABULARY AND LEARNING BY CONCEPTS AND THEMES OF THE BASIC ELEMENTS ON WHICH THE DISCIPLINE IS STRUCTURED.
Prerequisites
BASIC LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF MODERN HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY AND ELEMENTARY NOTIONS OF UNIVARIATE STATISTICS.
Contents
THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON KEY THEMES AND CONCEPTS OF THE DISCIPLINE, SUCH AS SOCIAL INTERACTION, SOCIAL STRUCTURE, CULTURE, MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION, POWER AND POLITICS, SOCIAL STRATIFICATION, WORK ORGANIZATION, MIGRATION, GENDER, FAMILY LIFE, RELIGION, SOCIAL CONTROL. FOR EACH OF THESE THEMES/CONCEPTS, THE STUDENT WILL BE INTRODUCED TO THE MAIN SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES AND AUTHORS WHO HAVE OFFERED A READING OF THESE THEMES OR USED THESE CONCEPTS. EACH OF THE THEMES DEALT WITH WILL BE PLACED WITHIN A DIACHRONIC PERSPECTIVE THAT WILL SHOW STUDENTS, ALSO THROUGH THE READING OF SHORT TEXTS BY CLASSICAL AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIOLOGISTS, THE FOUNDATIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS OF THE DISCIPLINE IN ITS DIFFERENT FIELDS OF APPLICATION.
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING FOLLOWS BOTH TRADITIONAL TEACHING METHODS, ORAL PRESENTATION OF THE CONTENTS, AND INNOVATIVE TEACHING METHODS, WITH THE HELP OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION TOOLS. IT ALSO AIMS TO PROMOTE COMMUNICATION IN THE CLASSROOM BY STRONGLY SUPPORTING RECIPROCITY AND THE PUBLIC INTERVENTION OF STUDENTS, IN ORDER TO MAKE THEIR PARTICIPATION EASY AND INVOLVING. FINALLY, THE TEACHING AIMS TO PROMOTE STUDENTS' ABILITY TO LEARN BY ACTIVATING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION CAPABLE OF STRENGTHENING THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND LEVEL OF ATTENTION.
Verification of learning
THE VERIFICATION OF LEARNING WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH THE ORAL DISCUSSION OF THE COURSE CONTENTS. THE GRADE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS PLUS POSSIBLE LAUDE, IS DETERMINED BY THE LEVEL OF ORAL EXPOSITION FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING DIMENSIONS: COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS, CRITICAL-DESCRIPTIVE SKILLS OF THE ISSUES SUBMITTED FOR VERIFICATION, APPROPRIATENESS OF DEFINITIONS AND CONCEPTUAL REFERENCES, MASTERY OF THE CONTENTS. LAUDE IS AWARDED WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT LANGUAGE SKILLS AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING SKILLS.
