THE COURSE IS AIMED AT LEARNING METHODS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE LINEAR CIRCUITS, BOTH IN DC AND IN AC, SINGLE PHASE AND THREE PHASES. BASIC ELEMENTS CONCERNING THE TRANSFORMER AND THE OPERATING PRINCIPLES OF THE INDUCTION MOTORS AND THE DC MOTORS ARE ALSO GIVEN. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: METHODS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE LINEAR CIRCUITS, IN DC AND AC, SINGLE PHASE AND THREE PHASE ONES. OPERATING PRINCIPLE AND LINEAR MODEL OF THE TRANSFORMER. OPERATING PRINCIPLES OF THE INDUCTION MOTOR AND OF THE DC MOTOR. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: TO BE ABLE TO ANALYZE DC AND AC LINEAR CIRCUITS. |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVES, BASIC ELEMENTS OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS ARE USEFUL, ESPECIALLY CONCERNING ELECTRICITY AND MATRIX CALCULUS. THE STUDENT HAS TO PASS FISICA AND MATEMATICA 2 BEFORE AFFORDING THE EXAM. |

THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO LECTURES AND CLASSROOM PRACTICES. IN THE LATTER ONES, THE PROFESSOR SHOWS THE PROCEDURE FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE CIRCUIT. AFTERWARDS, THE STUDENTS TAKE PARTE IN THE SOLUTION OF THE CIRCUIT PROBLEM, UP TO ACHIEVE A SATISFACTORY DEGREE OF AUTONOMY IN THE RESOLUTION OF THE EXERCISES. DURING THE CLASSROOM PRACTICES, THE PROFESSOR SOLVES THE CIRCUIT TOGETHER WITH THE STUDENTS, SO THAT HE CAN UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH THE CONCEPTS EXPLAINED UP TO THAT MOMENT HAVE BEEN UNDERSTOOD BY THE STUDENTS THEMSELVES. BEFORE AFFORDING THE EXAM AND ACHIEVING THE ECTS, THE STUDENT HAS TO ATTEND AT LEAST THE 70% OF THE TEACHING HOURS. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE EXAM IS AIMED AT EVALUATING: THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONCEPTS SHOWN DURING THE COURSE; THE ABILITY OF APPLYING THIS KNOWLEDGE FOR THE ANALYSIS OF DC AND AC LINEAR CIRCUITS. THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST, WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO ASSESS THE ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE, THE ABILITY IN WRITING ABOUT THE CIRCUIT ANALYSIS, THE INDEPENDENCE OF JUDGMENT, AND AN ORAL INTERVIEW, THE PURPOSE OF WHICH IS TO ASSESS THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTANDING, THE ABILITY TO LEARN, ORAL PRESENTATION. THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS IN SOLVING TWO PROBLEMS BELONGING TO TWO CLASSES DISCUSSED IN THE COURSE, IN PARTICULAR: 1) THE ANALYSIS OF A SINGLE PHASE AC CIRCUIT BY USING THE KIRCHHOFF LAWS, THE SUPERPOSITION PRINCIPLE, THE THEVENIN AND NORTON THEOREMS; 2) THE ANALYSIS OF AN AC THREE PHASE CIRCUIT. THE WRITTEN TEST WILL BE EVALUATED BY THE FOLLOWING SCALE: GOOD, SUFFICIENT, JUST AT THE LIMIT BETWEEN SUFFICIENT AND REJECTED, REJECTED. REJECTION REQUIRES THAT THE STUDENT HAS TO REPEAT THE WRITTEN TEST. THE TEST IS EVALUATED “JUST AT THE LIMIT BETWEEN SUFFICIENT AND REJECTED” IF BOTH THE EXERCISES MENTIONED ABOVE HAVE BEEN CORRECTLY SKETCHED, EVEN IF THE CANDIDATE HAS NOT GIVEN AN ANSWER TO ALL THE QUESTIONS GIVEN IN BOTH EXERCISES AND IF THE NUMERICAL RESULTS ARE NOT CORRECT. THE WRITTEN TEST IS EVALUATED AS “GOOD” IF BOTH THE EXERCISES ARE CORRECTLY SOLVED, THE PROCEDURE USED IS EXPLAINED PROPERLY AND ALL THE ANSWERS ARE GIVEN. THE ORAL EXAMINATION WILL COVER ALL THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND ASSESSMENT WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE KNOWLEDGE DEMONSTRATED BY THE STUDENT AND THE DEGREE OF ITS DEPTH, PROVEN ABILITY TO LEARN, THE QUALITY OF THE PRESENTATION. IN THE FINAL EVALUATION, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS, THE EVALUATION OF THE WRITTEN TEST WILL ACCOUNT FOR 60% WHILE THE INTERVIEW FOR 40%. THE CUM LAUDE MAY BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY CAN APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE AUTONOMOUSLY EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED IN THE COURSE. |
