Objectives
THE COURSE PROVIDES KNOWLEDGE FOR UNDERSTANDING THE COMPLEX OF PHENOMENA RELATED TO THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE SURFACES OF MECHANICAL AND BIOMECHANICAL SYSTEMS IN RELATIVE MOTION, EVEN IN THE PRESENCE OF LUBRICANTS. THE AIM IS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS CONTENTS ON CONTACT MECHANICS, FRICTION PHENOMENA, WEAR AND LUBRICATION MECHANISMS THAT INVOLVE KINEMATIC COUPLINGS. A PART OF THE COURSE IS ALSO DEVOTED TO BIOTRIBOLOGY (TRIBOLOGY APPLIED TO BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS), WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO IN VITRO AND IN SIICO METHODS FOR THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE WEAR PHENOMENA OF HUMAN JOINT PROSTHESES AND TO THE PHENOMENA OF DENTAL WEAR.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.
- PRINCIPLES OF CONTACT MECHANICS AND ANALYSIS OF HERTZIAN COUPLINGS.
- PARAMETERS AND INSTRUMENTS FOR THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE TOPOGRAPHY OF SURFACES.
- MECHANISMS AND MODELING OF WEAR PHENOMENA.
-PROPERTIES OF LUBRICANTS
-LUBRICATION MECHANISMS AND DESIGN OF HYDRODYNAMICALLY LUBRICATED BEARINGS
- PHENOMENA OF NATURAL SYNOVIAL LUBRICATION
-KINEMATICS AND MUSCULOSKELETAL DYNAMICS PRINCIPLES
- HUMAN JOINT PROSTHESES (THR, TKR) AND THEIR TRIBOLOGICAL BEHAVIOR
DENTAL DENTISTRY
- ABILITY TO USE THE HERTZIAN THEORY FOR THE DEFINITION OF THE STRESS STATE AND THE THERMAL REGIME IN MECHANICAL COUPLINGS.
- ABILITY TO ANALYZE THE TOPOGRAPHY OF REAL SURFACES.
- ABILITY TO DEFINE THE LUBRICATION MECHANISMS OF TRIBOSYSTEMS ACCORDING TO THE OPERATING PARAMETERS AND THE RHEOLOGY OF THE LUBRICANTS.
- ABILITY TO MODEL TRIBOLOGICAL PHENOMENA IN BIOMECHANICAL SYSTEMS.
TRANSVERSAL SKILLS
- ABILITY TO DESIGN MECHANICAL COUPLINGS OPTIMIZED FROM THE TRIBOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW.
- ABILITY TO MODEL COMPLEX LUBRICATION PHENOMENA.
- ABILITY TO INTERPRET TRIBOLOGICAL PHENOMENA WITH REFERENCE TO BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT. KNOW HOW TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHODS FOR THE DESIGN AND/OR VERIFICATION OF TRIBOLOGICAL COUPLINGS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS. KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE THE OBJECTIVES, PROCEDURE AND RESULTS OF THE DEVELOPED TOPICS, IN A CLEAR AND CONCISE WAY WITH GOOD LANGUAGE.

LEARNING ABILITY. BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED TO CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE, AND DELVE DEEPER INTO THE TOPICS COVERED USING MATERIALS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED.

Verification of learning
VERIFICATION OF LEARNING WILL BE CARRIED OUT THROUGH A FINAL ORAL TEST. DURING THE COURSE A GROUP WORK WILL BE PROPOSED WHICH WILL BE DISCUSSED DURING THE ORAL EXAM. THE EXAM WILL BE AIMED AT ASSESSING THE KNOWLEDGE AND OPERATIONAL SKILLS ACQUIRED. AT LEAST TWO QUESTIONS WILL BE FORMULATED TO EVALUATE KNOWLEDGE AND OPERATIONAL SKILLS. THE EVALUATION WILL BE EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS. THE FINAL EVALUATION IS OBTAINED AS THE AVERAGE OF THE PARTIAL EVALUATIONS.
THE MINIMUM ASSESSMENT LEVEL (18) IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT HAS A FRAGMENTED KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS AND SHOWS A LIMITED ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF STUDY.
THE MAXIMUM LEVEL (30) IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND HAS A REMARKABLE ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF STUDY.
PRAISE IS AWARDED WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND SHOWS REMARKABLE LANGUAGE PROPERTIES AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING CAPACITY EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER.
