Objectives
This course is aimed at obtaining knowledge and understanding of the molecular basis of the living organisms, of the structures and processes of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, and of the reproduction of living organisms. It is also aimed at providing specific knowledge of the expression and transmission of genetic information and of the elements of plant- classification, histology and anatomy. The student, on the basis of the acquired skills, will be able to address and solve problems related to cell and molecular biology and also to recognize the microscopic and macroscopic features of plant structures.
Prerequisites
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, MATHEMATICS PROVIDED BY HIGH SCHOOLS

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE OF BIOLOGY INCLUDES: LECTURES WITH THE SUPPORT OF MODERN TEACHING SUPPORTS SUCH AS PROJECTIONS BY MEANS OF MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS WITH DEDICATED EDUCATIONAL FILMS;
THE ATTENDANCE TO THE LECTURES OF THE GENERAL BIOLOGY COURSE IS MANDATORY. THE TEACHER WILL COMMUNICATE THE MODE OF ATTENDANCE CONTROL ON THE FIRST LECTURE OF THE COURSE. STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO SATISFY THE ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT, WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND A SERIAL OF INFORMAL TUTORIALS ACCORDING TO THE TEACHER'S INSTRUCTION
Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN AN ORAL TESTS, TO BE SUSTEINED IN THE SAME EXAM SESSION. THE RATING IS X/30. PASS THE WRITTEN TEST WITH A SCORE OF 18/30, IT IS MANDATORY TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THE ORAL TEST, AND REACH THE FINAL GRADE. THE WRITTEN TEST TAKES ONE HOUR AND 20 MINUTES AND CONSISTS OF MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS LOCKED AND SMALL REPORTS ON THE MAIN LEARNING OUTCOMES.
THE STUDENT WILL BE ASKED TO DISCUSS THE MAIN TOPICS OF THE COURSE, TRYING TO DEMONSTRATE CRITICAL THOUGHT AND AWARENESS OF THE STRUCTURE OF THE FIELD OF STUDY.
