GENERAL OBJECTIVE OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS: -PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGIES USED IN INVESTIGATIONSAIMED AT IDENTIFYING THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR CRIMES; - LEARNING OF THE ANALYSIS METHODS USED IN SCIENTIFIC POLICE INVESTIGATIONS INANTI-DOPING CONTROLS AND ANTI-MATURIFICATION INVESTIGATIONS; - LEARNING OF SAMPLING METHODS AND PERFORMANCE OF ANALYSIS IN THE FORENSICFIELD; - PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ON THE POTENTIAL AND LIMITS OF CHEMICAL ANALYSIS IN THEFORENSIC FIELD; - LEARNING OF THE CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION OF THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RESULTSDEPENDING ON THEIR USE IN THE FORENSIC FIELD; - PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE RELATING TO THE LEGAL AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF CHEMICALTESTS AND THE REGULATIONS RELATING TO THE CHEMIST'S LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL KNOW AND HAVE DEVELOPED UNDERSTANDING REGARDING: - THE ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGIES USED IN FORENSIC CHEMISTRY LABORATORIES; - THE MAIN ISSUES THAT DETERMINE THE OUTCOME OF A LABORATORY EXAMINATION ONFORENSIC SAMPLES; - THE REGULATIONS REGULATING CHEMICAL TESTS IN THE FORENSIC FIELD. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: -ADDRESS SCIENTIFICALLY AND RATIONALLY THE ISSUES RELATING TO LEGAL EXPERTISEIN THE CHEMICAL FIELD; - DISCRIMINATE AMONG THE ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES LEARNED, THE MOST SUITABLETO APPLY FOR THE RESOLUTION OF SPECIFIC CASES; - EVALUATE AND INTERPRET EXPERIMENTAL AND LITERATURE DATA. INDEPENDENCE OF JUDGMENT THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - CHOOSE THE CORRECT SAMPLING METHODS TO USE FOR FINDINGS FOUND AT THE CRIMESCENE; - PLAN AND CONDUCT CHEMICAL ANALYSIS ALLOWING THE IDENTIFICATION OF FINDINGSCOLLECTED AT THE CRIME SCENE; - CHOOSING THE MOST CORRECT ANALYTICAL APPROACH TO USE FOR THE RECOGNITIONOF BANNED SUBSTANCES. COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - TO COMMUNICATE KNOWLEDGE, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS RELATED TO FORENSICCHEMICAL ANALYSIS; - TO EXPRESS EVALUATIONS AND MOTIVATIONS IN A CLEAR AND UNDERSTANDABLE WAYTO SPECIALISTS AND NON-SPECIALISTS. LEARNING ABILITY THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - EXPAND YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF FORENSIC CHEMISTRY IN A SELF-DIRECTED ANDINDEPENDENT WAY; - LEARN FROM THE TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE IN THE FIELD OF FORENSICCHEMISTRY THE INFORMATION RELEVANT TO THE SOLUTION OF PROBLEMS THAT THEYWILL FACE; QUICKLY TRACE THE LAWS, DECREES AND REGULATIONS, NATIONAL ANDINTERNATIONAL, INHERENT TO PROBLEMS TO BE ADDRESSED. |

Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE PROVIDES 56 HOURS OF TEACHING. THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED AS FOLLOWS: CLASSROOM LESSONS (32 HOURS) ON ALL SUBJECTS OF THE PROGRAM; LESSONS IN THE LABORATORY (24 HOURS) WHICH INCLUDE THE USE OF THE TOOLS USEDIN FORENSIC INVESTIGATIONS. IN DETAIL, SIMULATIONS OF: ANALYSIS OF THE GUNSHOT RESIDUE WITH THE AID OF ELECTRONIC MICROSCOPY (SEM); DRUG ANALYSIS WITH THE AID OF CHROMATOGRAPHIC AND SPECTROSCOPICTECHNIQUES; ANALYSIS OF TRACES OF PAINT FOUND ON PLACES WHERE ROAD ACCIDENTS OCCURRED; ANALYSIS OF INKS USED IN DOCUMENTS THAT MUST BE AUTHENTICATED. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY AN ORAL EXAM LASTING ABOUT 20 MINUTES. THE TEST CONSISTS OF AN INTERVIEW WITH QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION ON THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENT OF THE COURSE. IT IS AIMED TO VERIFY THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACQUIRED BYTHE STUDENT. EXPOSURE CAPACITY WITH THE USE OF APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY WILLBE ALSO EVALUATED. THE VOTE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS WITH POSSIBLE HONORS, WILL DEPEND ON THEMATURITY ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT ON THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE AND ON ITSEXHIBITION SKILLS. TO GET THE HONORS, THE SCIENTIFIC MATURITY OF THE STUDENT ASWELL AS THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSURE AND THE AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT ACHIEVEDWILL BE REWARDED. |
