KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE AIM OF THE APPLIED CHEMISTRY COURSE IS TO GIVE THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE STRUCTURE AND OF THE CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS. MOREOVER THE TECHNOLOGIES TO PRODUCE TRADITIONAL AND INNOVATIVE MATERIALS WILL BE ANALYZED IN THE COURSE. THE PROGRAM WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS: WATERS FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS, FUELS, PHASE DIAGRAMS, PRODUCTION AND PROPERTIES OF STEEL, CERAMICS, GLASSES, POLYMERIC MATERIALS. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING – ENGINEERING ANALYSIS THE STUDENT , AT THE END OF THE COURSE, WILL BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE AND DISCUSS THE APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY TO PRODUCE THE DIFFERENT MATERIALS ANALYZED. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING – ENGINEERING DESIGN THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO DEFINE THE APPROPRIATE MATERIALS FOR A SPECIFIC INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION. MAKING JUDGMENTS - ENGINEERING PRACTICE THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CHEMICAL-PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE DIFFERENT MATERIALS. COMMUNICATION SKILLS – TRANSVERSAL SKILLS AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL ABLE TO DISCUSS THE TOPICS CONCERNING THE DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES TO PRODUCE THE TRADITIONAL AND INNOVATIVE MATERIALS AND THE RELATIVE PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF THE PRODUCTS. LEARNING SKILLS – TRANSVERSAL SKILLS: THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE IN THE SUBJECT OF MATERIALS FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE DESCRIBED IN THE COURSE. |

Teaching Methods | |

THE COURSE CONSISTS IN FRONT LESSONS (50H) AND EXERCISES (10H). THE COURSE WILL GIVE 6 CFU. THE EXERCISES ARE LED BY THE TEACHER WITH THE PARTECIPATION OF THE STUDENTS. ATTENDANCE AT LECTURES IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. |

THE ASSESSMENT OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES WILL BE DONE THROUGH A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL INTERVIEW. THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS OF QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE THEORY AND INCLUDES ONE EXERCISE. THE STUDENT PASSES THE WRITTEN EXAM IF HE OR SHE CORRECTLY ANSWERS HALF OF THE EXAM OR IF HE OR SHE ANSWERS SUFFICIENTLY TO ALL QUESTIONS. THE STUDENT REACHES THE LEVEL OF EXCELLENCE IF HE OR SHE ANSWERS ALL THE QUESTIONS THOROUGHLY. THE ORAL TEST CONSISTS OF AN INTERVIEW WITH QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION OF THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENT OF THE SUBJECTS OF THE TEACHING PROGRAM AND AIMS TO ASCERTAIN THE LOGICAL-DEDUCTIVE AND SYNTHESIS SKILLS OF THE STUDENT, AND THE ABILITY TO DISCUSS WITH THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY THE VARIOUS PROPOSED THEMES. THE FINAL MARK IS, GENERALLY, THE AVERAGE OF THE TWO MARKS. |
