Objectives
THE LABORATORY AIMS TO ENHANCE STUDENTS' KNOWLEDGE OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE (PHONETICS, MORPHOLOGY, SYNTAX) AND ABOVE ALL THEIR ABILITY TO TRANSLATE THE LATIN LITERARY TEXTS.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT:
- WILL DEEPEN THE DISCIPLINARY FOUNDATIONS OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE;
- WILL UNDERSTAND THE LATIN LITERARY TEXTS.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- TRANSLATE A LATIN LITERARY TEXT;
- ANALYZE A LATIN LITERARY TEXT;
- INTERPRET, ESPECIALLY ON A LINGUISTIC LEVEL, A LATIN LITERARY TEXT.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- EVALUATE A LITERARY TEXT;
- DISCERN THE CONSTITUTIVE ELEMENTS OF A LITERARY TEXT;
- SELECT THE MAIN LINGUISTIC ASPECTS OF A LITERARY TEXT.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- SPEAK IN ITALIAN WITH GREATER AWARENESS;
- REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, BY MEANS OF TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF HIS OWN RESEARCH OR ELABORATIONS.
- TALK ABOUT TOPICS RELATED TO THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE, MAKING USE OF ADEQUATE CRITICAL TERMINOLOGY.

LEARNING SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND IT RESOURCES;
- CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX LITERARY TEXTS;
- PROCEED WITH THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF HIS KNOWLEDGE, USING THE TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE.
Prerequisites
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE LATIN PHONETICS, MORPHOLOGY, AND SYNTAX.
Contents
THE EXERCISES WILL BE BASED ON A REPRESENTATIVE TEXT OF THE LATIN LITERARY PROSE: SENECA'S "EPISTULAE AD LUCILIUM", BOOK 5. THE TEXT WILL BE READ, TRANSLATED, AND INTERPRETED. THE EXERCISES WILL ALSO BE ABOUT THE STRUCTURES OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE.
Teaching Methods
THE STUDENTS WILL EXERCISE IN THE READING, TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION OF A LATIN LITERARY TEXT (SENECA, "EPISTULAE AD LUCILIUM", BOOK 5) UNDER THE TEACHER'S GUIDE.
MOREOVER THE STUDENTS WILL BE CONSTANTLY URGED TO DEEPEN THE LINGUISTIC STRUCTURES OF LATIN.
THE ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY. THE STUDENTS MAY NOT BE ABSENT MORE THAN 20% OF THE WORKSHOP HOURS. THE STUDENTS MUST SIGN THE ATTENDANCE SHEET.
Verification of learning
WRITTEN TRANSLATION OF A PASSAGE FROM A LATIN LITERARY TEXT, AIMED AT CHECKING THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND TRANSLATE INTO ITALIAN A LATIN LITERARY PASSAGE. "SUPERATO" MEANS PASSING THE TEST.
