Objectives
THE COURSE OF STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN II COMPLEMENTS THE TOPICS ALREADY PRESENTED IN THE FIRST PART, OFFERED AT THE B.SC. LEVEL, AND COVERS NEW ASPECTS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE IN THE DESIGN OF STRUCTURAL MEMBERS. FIRSTLY, AN OVERVIEW OF DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECTS DEALING WITH STRUCTURAL STEEL MEMBERS IS PRESENTED. SECONDLY, SOME SUBJECTS, MAINLY DEALING WITH REINFORCED CONCRETE, ARE EXPOSED.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
KEY TOPICS, SUCH AS THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF STEEL AND CONCRETE MEMBERS, ARE PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE LIMIT STATE METHOD.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENT SHOULD DEMONSTRATE A SOUND KNOWLEDGE IN DESIGNING STEEL MEMBERS AND JOINTS, PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS, AND PLATES ACCORDING TO THE METHODS PROPOSED IN THE RECENT CODES OF STANDARDS.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
THE ABILITY OF ANALYSING THE RESULTS OF STRESS ANALYSES AND DESIGN OPERATIONS WITH CRITICAL JUDGEMENT IS ONE OF THE KEY LEARNING OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
WORKING IN GROUP AND EXPLAINING THE KEY ASPECTS OF ADVANCED STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS ARE AMONG THE MOST IMPORTANT EXPECTED COMMUNICATION SKILLS.

LEARNING SKILLS
THE ABILITY OF APPLYING THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE TO COMPLEX STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS, ALSO IN MORE GENERAL SITUATIONS WITH RESPECT TO THE ONES EXPLICITLY DISCUSSED IN THE COURSE.
Prerequisites
THE EFFECTIVE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EXPECTED LEARNING OBJECTIVES REQUIRES A SOUND KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF STRUCTURAL MECHANICS.

3. COMPLEMENTARY TOPICS ABOUT THE LIMIT STATES DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS (40 ORE);
4. THEORY OF PLATES (10 ORE);
5. FOUNDATIONS OF STABILITY OF STRUCTURES (10 ORE).
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING MODULE CONSISTS OF THEORETICAL LECTURES, CLASSROOM EXERCISES AND LABORATORY PRACTICES. WORKED EXAMPLES ABOUT THE THEORETICAL SUBJECTS PRESENTED IN THE LECTURES ARE DEVELOPED DURING THE EXERCITES.
Verification of learning
THE FINAL ASSESSMENT IS DONE THROUGH BOTH A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL EXAM. TO PASS THE EXAM, THE STUDENT SHOULD DEMONSTRATE TO HAVE UNDERSTOOD AND TO BE ABLE TO APPLY THE MAIN TOPICS THAT ARE PART OF THE PROGRAMME. THE FINAL MARK, WHICH IS EXPRESSED IN 30TH, DEPENDS UPON THE LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT AND THE CLARITY OF HIS ANSWERS DURING THE EXAMS.
