THE TEACHING MODULE OF "COMPLEMENTS OF STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN" COMPLETES THE TOPICS ALREADY PRESENTED IN THE RELATED COURSE, OFFERED AT THE B.SC. LEVEL, AND COVERS NEW ASPECTS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE IN THE DESIGN OF STRUCTURAL MEMBERS. FIRSTLY, AN OVERVIEW OF DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECTS DEALING WITH STRUCTURAL STEEL MEMBERS IS PRESENTED. SECONDLY, SOME SUBJECTS, MAINLY DEALING WITH REINFORCED CONCRETE, ARE EXPOSED. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING KEY TOPICS, SUCH AS THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF STEEL AND CONCRETE MEMBERS, ARE PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE LIMIT STATE METHOD. THE TEACHING MODULE CONSISTS OF THEORETICAL LECTURES AND PRACTICAL CLASSES. WORKED EXAMPLES ABOUT THE THEORETICAL SUBJECTS PRESENTED IN THE LECTURES ARE DEVELOPED DURING THE EXERCITES. MOREOVER, TWO DESIGN EXAMPLES ARE DEVELOPED: A SINGLE-STOREY INDUSTRIAL STEEL BUILDING AND A PRESTRESSED CONCRETE MEMBER. ATTENDANCE IS NOT COMPULSORY. |

THE FINAL ASSESSMENT IS DONE THROUGH BOTH A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL EXAM. THE WRITTEN TEST USUALLY CONSISTS OF 4 EXERCISES TO BE SOLVED IN 4 HOURS. ALTHOUGH A MARK IS ATTRIBUTED TO THE WRITTEN EXAM, IT DOES NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE FINAL EVALUATION. THE ORAL EXAM MOVES FROM DISCUSSING THE TWO DESIGN EXAMPLES DEVELOPED DURING THE COURSE WITH THA AIM TO ASSESS THE ACTUAL LEVEL ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT IN "APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING". EVENTUALLY, THE EXAM PROCEEDS WITH OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FOUR MAIN SECTIONS OF THE PROGRAMME. THE FINAL MARK, EXPRESSED IN 30TH, ONLY DEPENDS ON THE RESULTS OF THE ORAL EXAM. PARTICULARLY, IT WILL DEPEND UPON THE ACTUAL LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT ABOUT BOTH THE THEORETICAL SUBJECTS AND THE DESIGN EXAMPLES, AND THE CLARITY OF HIS ANSWERS DURING THE EXAMS.STUDENTS WHO WILL DEMONSTRATE A FULL COMMAND OF TECHNICAL LANGUAGE AND A SIGNIFICANT CAPACITY OF "MAKING JUDGEMENT" WILL BE AWARDED THE MAXIMUM MARK WITH HONORS. |
