Objectives
LEARNING OF ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE ON THE LABORATORY SAFETY PROCEDURES AND RULES AND LABORATORY PRACTICE OF INORGANIC AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. ACQUISITION OF METHODOLOGIES FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF INORGANIC COMPOUNDS AND METHODS FOR ISOLATION AND PURIFICATION OF ORGANIC AND INORGANIC COMPOUNDS.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ACQUIRED THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF CHEMISTRY PROVIDED BY THE NORMAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDY PROGRAMS.

AFTER AN INTRODUCTORY PART CONCERNING THE CHEMICAL LABORATORY SAFETY ELEMENTS AND AN INTRODUCTION TO THE SAFETY REGULATIONS ON THE LABELING OF CHEMICAL REAGENTS, THE FOLLOWING LABORATORY EXERCISES WILL BE CARRIED OUT:
DETERMINATION OF THE MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF A VOLATILE LIQUID.
SYNTHESIS OF SODIUM CARBONATE ACCORDING TO THE SOLVAY METHOD.
SYNTHESIS OF IRON OXIDES (II) AND IRON (III).
CRYSTALLIZATION OF BENZOIC ACID.
EXTRACTION OF CAFFEINE FROM YOUR LEAVES. EXTRACTION AND CHROMATOGRAPHY OF PHOSOSYNTHETIC PIGMENTS OF CLOOPHILLA FROM SPINACH LEAVES.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES 72 HOURS OF TEACHING BETWEEN THE LAB AND EXERCISES. IN PARTICULAR, THERE ARE 48 HOURS OF CLASSROOM EXERCISES AND LESSONS (4CFU) AND 24 HOURS OF GUIDED LABORATORY EXERCISES (4 CFUS).
THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED AS FOLLOWS:
STECHIOMETRY AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY TUTORIALS AND LABORATORY SAFETY LESSONS WILL PRECEDE THE PRACTICAL PART IN THE LAB. STUDENTS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO GROUPS (MAXIMUM 3 STUDENTS PER GROUP) AND WILL FOLLOW 6 GUIDED LABORATORY EXERCISES OF 4 HOURS EACH. AT THE END OF THE LABORATORY EXERCISES, STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO WRITE A REPORT ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE AND COMMENT ON THE RESULTS OBTAINED.
LABORATORY FREQUENCY IS MANDATORY WITH A 10% (1 EXPERIENCE) ABSENCE OF ABSENCE.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EVALUATION EXAM WITH THE MAXIMUM FINAL NOTE IN 30/30. THE EXAM INVOLVES THE PREPARATION OF A DETAILED REPORT FOR EACH LABORATORY EXPERIENCE AND THE ORAL DISCUSSION OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED.
