I. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:LECTURES OFFER AN ANALYSIS OF CENTRAL CONTENTS OF THE MODERN WESTERN PHILOSOPHY THROUGH THE DISCUSSION OF ONE OR MORE CRUCIAL PHILOSOPHICAL TEXT(S). II. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: LESSONS PRESENT A WIDE EXPOSITION OF THE DEBATES ON THE SAME TOPICS ALONG THE PHASES OF THE MODERN PHIOSOPHY, LECTURES SUPPORT COMPETENCES SUCH AS CRITICAL READING AND INTERPRETATION OF PHILOSOPHICAL TEXTS. |

PART A: THE COURSE WILL ANALYZE THE PRESENCE OF AUGUSTINIAN THOUGHT IN 20TH-CENTURY PHILOSOPHY, IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF AUGUSTIN IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL IDENTITY OF THE 20TH CENTURY. Part B: “Certa methodo et idonea ratione …ad erudiendum qui christianus esse velit” (Agostino, De catechizandis rudibus, praef.). The course aims to introduce students: to the fundamental problematic issues that have been formulated and addressed by historians of thought during the twentieth century; to the practice of the interdisciplinary tools essential to use and enhance the available documentation; to the evaluation of the results of the application of philological-historical knowledge for the adequate reconstruction of the medieval philosophical text; to the maturation of the support coming from the theoretical approach to historical-philosophical questions. |

FRONTAL LESSONS. LECTURES ON MEDIEVAL AND RENAISSANCE PHILOSOPHICAL LITERATURE AND RELATING DOCUMENTS, WITH GUIDED INTERPRETATION OF TEXTS. DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE HISTORICAL GROUND, THE THEORETICAL IMPLICATIONS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF ACTUALISATION OF THE CONCERNED QUESTIONS. REGULAR AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. NOT ATTENDING STUDENTS SHOULD AGREE UPON EXAM-PROGRAM DIRECTLY WITH THE TEACHER. |

THE TEST CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION TO CHECK THE STUDENT PREPARATION AND THE EQUIPMENT TO USE THE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE MATERIAL IN THE FIELD OF THE HISTORY OF THE MEDIAEVAL PHILOSOPHY. DURING THE EXAMINATION, IT WILL BE EVALUATED THE SKILL TO COMMUNICATE IN A CLEAR AND UNIVOCOUS WAY ALL THE METHODOLOGICAL ELEMENTS ACQUIRED. |
