Objectives
THE COURSE IS MEANT TO PROVIDE CAPACITIES FOR ANALYZING SOME OF THE FOUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS OF POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY. BY MOVING FROM THE CENTRAL CONCEPT OF DEMOCRACY, ITS CONSTITUENTS ARE ENUCLEATED AND ANALYZED, FROM THE CONCEPT OF FREEDOM TO THOSE OF INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE.

THE INTENT IS TO MAKE STUDENTS ACQUIRE A PHILOSOPHICAL AND CRITICAL VIEW OF SOCIETY, TOGETHER WITH THE INTERELLATIONS BETWEEN IDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE INTERESTS, AS WELL AS THE NATURE OF SOCIETY AND ITS INTERNAL ORGANIZATION.

STUDENTS ARE COSTANTLY ENCOURAGED TO DEVELOP THEIR CRITICAL AND ANALYTICAL ABILITIES, AND ITS AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT, BY CONFRONTING DIFFERENT POLITICAL CONCEPTIONS AND THEORIES.
SINCE THE BEGINNING, STUDENTS ARE STIMULATED TO INTERLOCUTION, TO EVALUATE AND INCREASE THEIR CAPACITY TO APPROPRIATELY EXPRESS THEIR POINT OF VIEWS AND THEIR CRITICAL INSIGHTS. BESIDES CONFRONTING WITH THE TEACHER, STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO DEBAT AMONG THEMSELVES, WITH THE AIM OF STIMULATING LOGICAL, DIALOGICAL AND EXPRESSIVE CAPACITIES TO CONSTRUCT ARGUMENTS.

TO IMPROVE THEIR CAPACITY TO APPREHEND, STUDENTS ARE STIMULATED, BY THE USE OF EXAMPLE AND HYPOTHETICAL SITUATIONS, TO FORMULATE THEIR POSITIONS AND POINTS OF VIEW, BY DEFENDING THEM ACTIVELY USING THE APPREHENDED THEORIES.
Teaching Methods
FRONTAL LESSONS AND SEMINARS. STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE TEXTBOOKS, BY STUDYING THEM DURING THE COURSE. WITH THIS AIM, FOR SOME CLASSES WRITTEN PAPERS ARE ASSIGNED. THEY HAVE TO BE BASES FOR CLASS DISCUSSIONS
Verification of learning
EXAMS ARE WRITTEN. STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO ANSWER TWENTY QUESTIONS FOR TWO HOURS. TEN QUESTIONS WILL BE MULTIPLE ANSWERS QUESTIONS, TEN QUESTIONS WILL BE OPEN: STUDENTS HAVE TO ANSWER OR COMMENT THEM.
ANSWERS WILL BE EVALUATED BOTH QUANTITATIVELY AND QUALITATIVELY. TEN ANSWERS WILL BE CONSIDERED THE MINIMUM. ANSWERING TO ALL QUESTIONS WILL BE A BASIS FOR A VOTE OF 26. INCREASE FROM THAT WILL BE DICTATED BY QUALITATIVELY CONSIDERATIONS, DEPENDING ON EXTENDED KNOWLEDGE OF THE ARGUMENTS, LOGICAL-ANALYTICAL CAPACITY ABILITY IN THE ARGUMENTATION.
