GENERAL OBJECTIVE: THE COURSE AIMS TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO SOME KEY FIELDS OF GERMAN LINGUISTICS (PHONETICS/PHONOLOGY AND MORPHOLOGY) AND ELEMENTARY GRAMMATICAL STRUCTURES. IT ALSO AIMS TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THE NECESSARY TOOLS FOR ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF - THE ARTICULATION AND ACOUSTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF GERMAN SOUNDS; - THE INTERRELATIONS BETWEEN SOUNDS WITHIN THE GERMAN LANGUAGE; - THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE OF GERMAN WORDS; - THE MAIN WORD FORMATION PROCESSES; - ASPECTS OF GERMAN ORTHOGRAPHY; - ELEMENTARY LEVEL GRAMMATICAL STRUCTURES AND VOCABULARY (LEVEL A2 OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES CEFR). ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - ANALYSE WRITTEN AND ORAL TEXTS OF VARIOUS TYPES (CEFR LEVEL A2) FROM A PHONETIC-PHONOLOGICAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW; - UNDERSTAND AND PRODUCE FREQUENTLY USED SENTENCES AND EXPRESSIONS, SHORT AND SIMPLE TEXTS ON EVERYDAY TOPICS AND IMMEDIATE NEEDS; - SPEAK AND WRITE IN GERMAN ON EVERYDAY TOPICS (CEFR LEVEL A2); - MANAGE SIMPLE ROUTINE CONVERSATIONS CONCERNING THE DIRECT EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION RELATED TO IMMEDIATE NEEDS; - TRANSLATE SHORT AND SIMPLE TEXTS FROM GERMAN INTO ITALIAN. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - RECOGNISE LOGICAL LINKS, ARGUE, COMPARE AND EVALUATE TEXTS FROM A LINGUISTIC POINT OF VIEW.. COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - COMMUNICATE IN GERMAN (LEVEL A2 CEFR); - REPORT ON THE LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA STUDIED; - PRESENT THE RESULTS OF THEIR OWN WORK IN TEXTUAL FORM. LEARNING SKILLS: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE: - TO USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS AND COMPUTER ANALYSIS RESOURCES. |

THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: GERMAN PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY (16H); ORTHOGRAPHIC ASPECTS OF GERMAN (4H); ASPECTS OF INFLECTION (4H); WORD FORMATION PROCESSES (COMPOSITION, DERIVATION, CONVERSION) (8H); BASIC GRAMMAR STRUCTURES OF THE GERMAN LANGUAGE, MAIN AND SECONDARY CLAUSES, MAIN WORD CLASSES (ARTICLE, NOUN, PRONOUN, VERB, ADJECTIVE) (13H). |

THE TEACHING INCLUDES 45 HOURS OF LECTURES, WHICH TAKE PLACE IN THE CLASSROOM, AND PRACTICAL LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES IN LANGUAGE LABS WITH NATIVE-SPEAKER LANGUAGE EXPERTS. SELF-STUDY ACTIVITIES IN PRE-ARRANGED LANGUAGE LABS ARE ALSO RECOMMENDED. |
Verification of learning | |

ATTENDING-STUDENTS HAVE TO TAKE TWO WRITTEN TESTS DURING THE COURSE (TO TEST THEIR THEORY KNOWLEDGE ON THE CONTENT OF THE COURSE AND THEIR LINGUISTIC COMPETENCES) AND A FINAL ORAL EXAM. NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS HAVE TO TAKE A WRITTEN AND AN ORAL FINAL EXAM. STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT EXCEEDED 20% ABSENCES WILL BE CONSIDERED AS ATTENDING. ORAL EXAMINATION, WHICH CONSISTS OF A CONVERSATION IN GERMAN (LEVEL A2 QCER) ON EVERYDAY TOPICS AND AN ANALYSIS OF A SHORT WRITTEN TEXT IN GERMAN (LEVEL A2 QCER) FROM A PHONETIC-PHONOLOGICAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW, IS ONLY POSSIBILE AFTER PASSING THE WRITTEN LANGUAGE TEST(S). |
