Objectives
THE COURSE IS AIMED AT ACQUIRING THE KNOWLEDGE ON THE CONCEPT OF DRUG AS A MEAN FOR THE STUDY OF CELLULAR FUNCTION THROUGH ITS INTERACTION WITH THE MOLECULAR TARGET, ON THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THE RECEPTORS, THE MECHANISMS OF SIGNAL TRANSDUCTION, ON THE BASIC MECHANISMS OF CELL PROLIFERATION AND OF DRUG ACTION, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO NEW BIOLOGICAL DRUGS.
THE STUDENT APPLYING THE ACQUIRED SKILLS SHOULD BE ABLE TO DEAL WITH PROBLEMS IN THE FIELD OF CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR PHARMACOLOGY AND IN THE FIELD OF BIO-ACTIVE COMPOUNDS USED IN THERAPY
Prerequisites
FOR UNDERSTANDING AND APPLY THE MAJORITY OF THE SUBJECTS COVERED IN THIS TEACHING COURSE, IT IS NECESSARY TO EXCEED THE PREPARATORY EXAMINATION OF GENERAL BIOCHEMISTRY.
Contents
FTER INTRODUCING THE PRINCIPLES OF CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR PHARMACOLOGY, THE TEACHING WILL BE FOCUSED ON:
-CLASSIFICATION OF RECEPTORS
-MODULATION OF RECEPTOR RESPONSES
-THE RECEPTOR-CHANNEL: MOLECULAR ORGANIZATION AND MODULATION OF THEIR ACTIVITY.
-G PROTEIN-COUPLED RECEPTORS: MOLECULAR ORGANIZATION AND FUNCTION AND STUDY OF THE EFFECTOR SYSTEMS.
-THE GROWTH FACTORS RECEPTORS: MOLECULAR ORGANIZATION, ACTIVATION AND SIGNAL TRANSDUCTION OF RECEPTORS OF GROWTH FACTORS
- PHARMACOLOGICAL CONTROL OF THE ACTIVITY OF GROWTH FACTORS AND OF THEIR RECEPTORS
-TRANSDUCTION SYSTEMS MEMBRANE, SECOND MESSENGERS: MECHANISMS OF INTRACELLULAR SIGNAL TRANSDUCTION PATHWAYS AND THEIR REGULATION BY DRUGS
-CYTOKINES: RECEPTORS AND FUNCTIONS. PHARMACOLOGICAL MODULATION OF CYTOKINES
-RECEPTORS THAT MEDIATE CELL ADHESION
-THE INTRACELLULAR RECEPTORS: MOLECULAR ORGANIZATION AND MODULATION OF THEIR ACTIVITY
- MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR PHARMACOLOGY OF AUTACOIDS.
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING PROVIDES LECTURES FOR 40 HOURS (5CFU), LOCATED IN THE CLASSROOM WITH THE AUXILIARY PROJECTION.
THE FREQUENCY OF THE LECTURES IS ESSENTIAL. THE PRESENCE CHECKING MODE WILL BE NOTIFIED BY THE DOCENT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LESSONS.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF TEACHING IS CERTIFIED BY AN EXAMINATION GRADED IN 30/30 AND THE MINIMUM WAS 18/30. THE EXAMINATION WILL BE PROVIDED AS AN ORAL TEST.
THE ORAL TEST WILL BE ORGANIZED WITH QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION ON THE METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE PROGRAM OF THE COURSE. THE ORAL TEST IS FINALIZED TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND THE UNDERSTANDING REACHED BY THE STUDENT. THE TEST ALSO HAVE THE PURPOSE TO VERIFY THE EXPOSURE CAPABILITY AND THE USE OF AN THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY BY THE STUDENT. MOREOVER THE ORAL TEST WILL ASSESS THE CAPACITY OF THE AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATION OF THE EXPOSURE OF THE SAME SUBJECT TO THEORETICAL CONTENT.
Texts
THERE ARE MANY TEXTS, BOTH ITALIAN AND FOREIGN, THAT CAN PROVIDE AN EXTENT EQUIVALENT TO EACH OTHER ELEMENTS NECESSARY FOR THE STUDY OF THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE.
1) PAOLETTI R., NICOSIA S., CLEMENTI F., G. FUMAGALLI, GENERAL AND MOLECULAR PHARMACOLOGY, UTET.
2) GOODMAN & GILMAN, THE PHARMACOLOGICAL BASIS OF THERAPY, X ITALIAN EDITION, FREEMAN.
WE RECOMMEND THE USE OF TEXTS PUBLISHED IN RECENT YEARS.
