GENERAL OBJECTIVE THE COURSE OBJECTIVES ARE PART OF THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE DEGREE COURSE WHICH INVOLVES THE TRAINING OF A PROFESSIONAL EXPERT IN THE FIELD OF MONITORING, EVALUATION, MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL AND ANTHROPOGENIC RISKS AND TERRITORY MANAGEMENT. TEACHING: ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY - HYGIENE AND ECOTOXICOLOGY MODULE (PROF VIGLIOTTA) THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE TRAINING OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL OPERATOR WHO IS AWARE AND PREPARED ON THE MAIN AND FUNDAMENTAL SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS ON WHICH ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY IS BASED. SPECIFICALLY, THE CHARACTERIZING OBJECTIVE OF THE TEACHING IS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE BASIC TORIC-PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE FOR MONITORING TOXIC SUBSTANCES IN THE ENVIRONMENT AND MANAGING ECOTOXICOLOGICAL RISK. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR N.1) THE TEACHING AIMS, WITH THE SUPPORT OF ADVANCED TEXTBOOKS, TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE MAIN TECHNIQUES FOR DETERMINING THE EFFECTS OF TOXIC SUBSTANCES AND FOR RECOGNIZING THE BIOLOGICAL RESPONSES RELATED TO THEM, PROVIDING DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS USEFUL IN ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY. IT IS ALSO THE OBJECTIVE OF THE TEACHING TO GIVE THE STUDENT THE TOOLS TO DEVELOP AND/OR APPLY THEIR OWN IDEAS, POSSIBLY ALSO IN RESEARCH AREAS, FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PROTOCOL AIMED AT MANAGING ECOTOXICOLOGY PROBLEMS. FINALLY, THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE USEFUL KNOWLEDGE TO BE ABLE TO ADDRESS AND UNDERSTAND MORE ADVANCED TOPICS ON THE SUBJECT THAT MAY ARISE DURING THEIR TRAINING. APPLIED KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR N.2) THE TEACHING AIMS TO ENABLE THE STUDENT TO UNDERSTAND THE APPLICATION OF ECOTOXICOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES, TO CRITICALLY EXAMINE SCIENTIFIC PAPERS IN THE ECOTOXICOLOGICAL FIELD AND CONSCIOUSLY ORIENT THEMSELVES IN THE CHOICE OF ECOTOXICOLOGICAL TOOLS IN APPLIED STUDIES. AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE KNOWLEDGE LEARNED WILL ALLOW THE STUDENT TO APPROACH PROBLEMS IN NEW (UNFAMILIAR) AND INTERDISCIPLINARY FIELDS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT, AND TO EVALUATE AND PROCESS INFORMATION DERIVING FROM SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES AND OTHER SOURCES OF INFORMATION ON ECOTOXICOLOGY TOPICS. AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR N.3) THANKS TO THE TRANSVERSAL NATURE OF THE SUBJECT, THE TEACHING HAS THE FURTHER OBJECTIVE OF INCREASING THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO RELATE AND INTEGRATE THE KNOWLEDGE LEARNED WITH THAT OF THE OTHER COURSES PROVIDED BY THE DEGREE COURSE OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME ENCOURAGING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MORE AUTONOMOUS AND CRITICAL SCIENTIFIC THOUGHT. IN DETAIL, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: INDEPENDENTLY INTEGRATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE TO BETTER MANAGE THE COMPLEXITY OF PROBLEMS RELATING TO ECOTOXICOLOGY; TO FORMULATE JUDGEMENTS, EVEN WITH PARTIAL DATA, ON THE EFFECTS LINKED TO THE ACTIVITIES OF CONTAMINANTS AND THEIR BIOLOGICAL EFFECTS; TO APPROACH THE CHOICE AND DEVELOPMENT OF CONTROL STRATEGIES. COMMUNICATION SKILLS (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR N.4) THE TEACHING TENDS TO FAVOR THE STUDENT'S ACQUISITION OF THE TECHNICAL TERMINOLOGY AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS NECESSARY TO COMMUNICATE CLEARLY AND RIGOROUSLY WITH SPECIALISTS AND NON-SPECIALISTS ON CONCEPTS AND CONCLUSIONS RELATING TO GENERAL ECOTOXICOLOGY TOPICS. THE COURSE INCLUDES 48 HOURS OF TEACHING AND IS STRUCTURED IN FRONTAL THEORETICAL LESSONS. ATTENDANCE IS NOT MANDATORY, BUT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED AS WELL AS TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM LESSONS, THE COURSE WILL INCLUDE SPECIFIC SESSIONS AIMED AT FURTHER IMPROVING THE UNDERSTANDING OF MORE TAXING TOPICS, AND WILL ALSO ENTAIL EXAMINATION OF REAL CASES OF BUSINESS EXPERIENCES. THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE COURSE OBJECTIVES WILL BE VERIFIED BY PASSING AN ORAL EXAM, LONGING ABOUT 30 MINUTES. THE LATTER IS INTENDED TO VERIFY THE LEARNING OF THE VARIOUS TOPICS COVERED DURING THE COURSE. THE FINAL GRADE WILL BE EXPRESSED IN THIRTEENTH. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE TEST IS TO VERIFY THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL AND TECHNICAL ASSUMPTIONS UNDERLYING ENVIRONMENTAL ECOTOXICOLOGY. THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE THAT HE HAS LEARNED THE FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS RELATED TO ENVIRONMENTAL ECOTOXICOLOGY. THE MINIMUM GRADE TO PASS THE EXAM IS 18/30, AND IS AWARDED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF ENVIRONMENTAL ECOTYXOLOGY (E.G., CALCULATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL RISK, MAIN BIOMONITORING TOOLS, BIOINDICATORS AND BIOACCUMULATORS, ETC.).
