THE COURSE WILL PROVIDE TO STUDENTS KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS FOR A BASE TRAINING IN ECONOMIC HISTORY BY LEARNING SPECIFIC MAIN THEMES ABOUT EVOLUTIONARY SCENERY OF CAPITALIST ECONOMIES. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS APPLICATION OF GENERAL LINES OF ECONOMIC HISTORY, IN ORDER TO DEVELOPE STUDENT'S INTERPRETATION ABILITY – IN A LONG RUN PERSPECTIVE – THE MAIN MACROECONOMIC PHENOMENA RELATED TO ECONOMIC CYCLES, THE ECONOMIC GROWTH PROCESSES, THE CAPITALIST ECONOMIES DEVELOPEMENT MODELS, THE CHANGES IN THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATION PROCESS, THE GLOBALIZATION. THE STUDENT ACHIEVES ABILITY TO INTERPRET IN AN INDIPENDENT WAY ECONOMIC PHENOMENA AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE. THE STUDENT ACHIEVES COMMUNICATION SKILL TO EXPRESS IN A CLEAR AND SUPPORTED WAY INFORMATION, IDEAS PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS LINKED TO THE STUDY OF DEVELOPEMENT AND GROWTH MODELS IN THEIR HISTORIC EVOLUTION. THE STUDENT ACHIEVES FIT SKILLS TO DESCRIBE, INTERPRET AND REPRESENT ENTREPRENEURIAL AND MICRO AND MACROECONOMIC PROBLEMS TO INTERLOCUTORS (QUALIFIED OR NOT). THE STUDENT - BASING ON METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH AND ECONOMIC HISTORY ANALYSIS – IS ABLE TO USE LOGICAL REASONING AND CRITICALLY EVALUATE DIFERENT ECONOMIC DEVELOPEMENT MODELS AND THEIR EVOLUTION IN TERMS OF PATH DEPENDANCE. |

THE COURSE IS STRUCTURED IN TWO SECTIONS: A) I PART: EUROPE DURING MODERN AGE AS AN INTEGRATED ECONOMIC SYSTEM. TOWARDS GROWTH: NEW BALANCES AND GENERAL TRENDS OF CONTINENTAL ECONOMY IN XVI AND XVII CENTURIES. CONTINUITY AND DIVERGENCES IN 18TH CENTURY'S ECONOMIC GROWTH. 19TH CENTURY'S EUROPEAN ECONOMIC DEVELOPEMENT: GROWTH, TRANSFORMATION AND DYNAMICS. FIRST INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTIONS: INTERPRETATION AND HISTORIOGRAPHIC DEBATE. THE ITALIAN ECONOMY FROM POLITICAL UNIFICATION TO “ENTREPRENEURIAL STATE”. THE XXTH CENTURY BETWEEN BREAKING AND PROSPERITY. THE WORLD ECONOMIC READJUSTMENT AFTER WORLD WAR II. INDUSTRIALIZATION AND DEINDUSTRIALIZATION. THE STAGES TOWARDS EUROPEAN INTEGRATION. THE GLOBALIZATION. B) II PART: COMPARATIVE FOCUS ON ON BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY IN SOUTHERN ITALY AND IN THE PROVINCE OF SALERNO IN THE XIX AND XX CENTURIES. |

THE COURSE IS BASED ON 60 HOURS TEACHING: FRONT LESSONS (52 HOURS); SEMINARS (4 HOURS), CASE STUDY DISCUSSION (4 HOURS). THE FREQUENCY OF THE COURSE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. |

THE COURSE PROVIDES AN ORAL EXAM, IN ORDER TO CHECK THE STUDENT'S CAPACITY TO CRITICALLY AND DIACRONICALLY ANALYZE THE MAIN SOCIO-ECONOMIC PHENOMENON STUDIED, IN DIFFERENT TERRITORIAL CONTESTS AND IN DIFFERENT PHASES OF WORLD ECONOMIC HISTORY. THE ORAL EXAM HAS A DURATION OF ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES AND IS BASED ON A SET OF SPECIFIC QUESTIONS TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND COMPLETION CAPABILITY REACHED BY THE STUDENT. THE FINAL EXAM WILL ALSO CHECK THE EXPOSURE CAPABILITY OF THE STUDENT TO USE THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND THE CAPACITY TO ORGANIZE AUTONOMOUSLY HIS/HER PRESENTATION. THE EVALUATION WILL BE EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS. THE MINIMUM LEVEL OF EVALUATION (18) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT HAS A FRAGMENTED KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS AND SHOWS A LIMITED ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF THE STUDY. THE MAXIMUM LEVEL (30) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND HAS A CONSIDERABLE ABILITY TO USE THEM IN THE CONTEXT OF STUDY. PRAISE IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND SHOWS REMARKABLE OWNERSHIP OF LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING SKILLS EVEN IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER. AN INTER-COURSE TEST, NOT OBLIGATORY, CAN BE ORGANIZED; THE FINAL EVALUATION IS OBTAINED AS THE AVERAGE OF THE PARTIAL EVALUATIONS. |
