Objectives
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES AND COMPETENCES.

THE COURSE INTENDS TO PROVIDE THE MAIN COMPETENCES RELATED TO THE PRINCIPLES AND METHODOLOGIES AT THE BASIS OF FREIGHT TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS ISSUES.
THE COURSE ALSO INTENDS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE ABILITY TO ANALYSE AND INTERPRET TRANSPORT ISSUES, EVALUATE AND COMPARE ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT SOLUTIONS, DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS, DIFFERENT FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:

- UNDERSTANDING OF THE UNDERLYING PHENOMENON OF FREIGHT TRANSPORT AND OF THE UNDERLYING LOGISTICS CHAIN
- UNDERSTANDING OF MARITIME FREIGHT TRANSPORT AND ITS FUNCTIONAL ELEMENTS (UNIT
LOADING/HANDLING, PORTS AND WATERWAYS)
- UNDERSTANDING OF INTERMODAL FREIGHT TRANSPORT AND ITS FUNCTIONAL ELEMENTS (UNIT
LOADING/HANDLING, INTERPOSING)
- UNDERSTANDING OF AIR FREIGHT TRANSPORT AND ITS FUNCTIONAL ELEMENTS (AIRPORTS AND UNITS
LOADING/HANDLING)
- UNDERSTANDING OF METHODS OF ESTIMATING FREIGHT DEMAND

INDIPENDENCE OF JUDGEMENT:
ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHODS AND TECHNOLOGIES IN APPLICATION CONTEXTS RELATED TO THE FREIGHT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS AND OF THE LOGISTIC CHAIN.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
ABILITY TO WORK IN A GROUP AND TO PRESENT A TOPIC RELATED TO THE MANAGEMENT OF THE FREIGHT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS AND OF THE LOGISTIC CHAIN.

LEARNING SKILLS
ABILITY TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED IN DIFFERENT CONTEXTS FROM THOSE PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE; WITH REFERENCE TO FUTURE PROSPECTS OF ADVANCEMENT, ABILITY TO LEARN AND DEEPEN IN FULL AUTONOMY THE VARIOUS TOPICS COVERED.

Prerequisites
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS AND GENERAL PHYSICS IS REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVES SET.
Contents
THE COURSE INCLUDES 60 HOURS OF TEACHING (6 CFU) IN THE FORM OF LECTURES.

THE MAIN TOPICS OF THE COURSE ARE:

> INTRODUCTION AND CLASSIFICATION OF THE FREIGHT TRANSPORT SYSTEM (5 HOURS).

> RAIL FREIGHT TRANSPORT(3 HOURS OF THEORY AND EXAMPLES)
(INFRASTRUCTURE, HANDLING UNITS, TRANSPORT UNITS)

> ROAD FREIGHT TRANSPORT (2 HOURS THEORY AND EXAMPLES)
(INFRASTRUCTURE, HANDLING UNITS, TRANSPORT UNITS)

> MARITIME FREIGHT TRANSPORT (10 HOURS OF THEORY AND EXAMPLES)
(INFRASTRUCTURE, HANDLING UNITS, TRANSPORT UNITS)

> INTERMODAL FREIGHT TRANSPORT (10 HOURS THEORY AND EXAMPLES)
(INFRASTRUCTURE, HANDLING UNITS, TRANSPORT UNITS)

> PLANNING AND GOVERNANCE OF FREIGHT AND LOGISTICS NODES AND SYSTEMS (10 HOURS OF THEORY AND EXAMPLES)

> THE SIZING OF THE GEOMETRIC/FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF FREIGHT TERMINALS WITH A VIEW TO EFFICIENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY' (20 HOURS OF THEORY AND EXAMPLES)
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE IS EQUAL TO 6 CREDITS.
1 CREDIT EQUALS TO ABOUT
- 7 HOURS OF LESSONS,
- 3 HOURS OF ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING EXERCISES WITH ACTIVE PARTICIPATION AND SEMINARS.

Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVING OF THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN ORAL EXAM (WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL TEST).
THE EVALUATION OF THE EXAMINATION IS IN THIRTIETHS AND IS PASSED WITH A MINIMUM VOTE OF 18/30.

THE EXAM INCLUDES QUESTIONS FOR EACH OF THE MACROS - TOPICS COVERED IN CLASS

THE ORAL EXAM CONSISTS OF A DISCUSSION LASTING NOT MORE THAN ABOUT 30 MINUTES, AIMED AT ASCERTAINING:
• THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL CONTENT
• THE LEVEL OF COMPETENCE ACHIEVED IN THE EXHIBITION: PROPERTIES OF LANGUAGE, LOGICAL ABILITY - DEDUCTIVE AND SYNTHESIS, ABILITY TO ARGUE, AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT IN PROPOSING THE MOST APPROPRIATE APPROACH TO ARGUE WHAT IS REQUIRED

HONOURS MAY BE AWARDED TO STUDENTS WHO ACHIEVE A MAXIMUM MARK OF 30/30 AND IF THEY DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THEY HAVE ACQUIRED AUTONOMOUSLY, EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED IN CLASS.

AS REGARDS THE TIMING, THE WRITTEN TEST CAN BE ACHIEVED IN THE EXAMINATION SESSIONS AT THE END OF THE COURSE.
