Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASICS OF LATIN LINGUISTICS AND THE ROMAN LITERARY SYSTEM, ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE MAIN ELEMENTS AT WORK IN THE LATIN LANGUAGE.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: ABILITY TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED IN THE FIELD OF LATIN LINGUISTICS TO THE LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF REPUBLICAN ANT IMPERIAL TEXTS AND TO UNDERSTAND, ALSO BY PHILOLOGICAL AND LITERARY ANALYSIS, THE MAIN PROBLEMS POSED BY LATIN LITERATURE.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT: ABILITY TO INTERPRET CRITICALLY BOTH LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY DATA AND PROBLEMS TYPICAL OF THE FIELD AND TO REFLECT UPON THE MAIN TOPICS, FORMULATING INFORMED JUDGEMENTS.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE, USING THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY, INFORMATION AND PROBLEMS CONCERNING THE FIELD OF LATIN LITERATURE TO SPECIALIST AND NON SPECIALIST AUDIENCES

LEARNING SKILLS: TO HAVE GRASPED THE BASIC TOOLS AND DEVELOPED THOSE LEARNING SKILLS THAT ARE NECESSARY FOR THEM TO CONTINUE TO UNDERTAKE FURTHER STUDY WITH A MIDDLE DEGREE OF AUTONOMY IN THE FIELD OF LATIN LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND PHILOLOGY.
Prerequisites
STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE A GOOD COMMAND OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE. ACCORDINGLY, IT WOULD BE PREFERABLE THAT STUDENTS WHO ENROLL IN THE COURSE HAVE PREVIOUSLY PASSED, RESPECTIVELY, ONE EXAMINATION IN LATIN LITERATURE AND ONE EXAMINATION IN THE LATIN LANGUAGE WITHIN THE BA DEGREE PROGRAM. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT MEET SUCH REQUIREMENTS ARE NONETHELESS EXPECTED TO HAVE A GOOD COMMAND OF LATIN LITERATURE IN ITS HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT, AS WELL AS TO BE ABLE TO TRANSLATE INTO ITALIAN ANY LATIN TEXT BY A CLASSICAL AUTHOR.

Teaching Methods
STUDENTS WILL ACTIVELY CONTRIBUTE TO THE COURSE, BOTH INDIVIDUALLY AND IN SMALL GROUPS, BY ANALYSING A NUMBER OF TEXTS AS WELL AS BY EXPANDING ON TOPICS TO BE CHOSEN IN CONSULTATION WITH THE INSTRUCTOR. STUDENTS WILL ALSO BE ENCOURAGED TO GIVE PRESENTATIONS AND, MORE GENERALLY, TO EMBARK ON SMALL RESEARCH PROJECTS ON THE TEXT OF CATULLUS THAT WILL POSITIVELY AFFECT THE FINAL GRADE.
Verification of learning
THE FINAL EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF AN ORAL INTERVIEW OF EACH STUDENT TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE INSTRUCTOR, WHO WILL ASSESS THE STUDENT’S PROFICIENCY BOTH IN THE TOPICS THAT WERE DEALT WITH IN CLASS AND IN THE INDIVIDUAL PAPERS.
