Contents
FROM AN ECONOMIC POINT OF VIEW, CULTURAL POLICY AND ARTS MANAGEMENT ARE PRIMARILY CONCERNED WITH PUBLIC GOODS AND/OR EXTERNALITIES. THUS, THE COURSE BEGINS WITH AN INTRODUCTION TO THE BASIC MICROECONOMICS TOOLS OF PREFERENCE, CHOICE, PRIVATE GOODS, PUBLIC GOODS AND MARKET STRUCTURE. SIMPLE VERSIONS OF THE THEOREMS OF WELFARE ECONOMICS ARE USED IN ORDER TO EXPLAIN THE BENEFITS OF THE EXCHANGE IN A DECENTRALIZED ECONOMY, THE DISTORTIONS FROM MONOPOLY, AND ITS REGULATION. SINCE CULTURAL GOODS ARE OFTEN DELIVERED UNDER MONOPOLY, SPECIAL ATTENTION IS DEVOTED TO PRICE DISCRIMINATION AND TO ITS APPLICATIONS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF MUSEUMS AND CULTURAL EVENTS.
