The aim of the course is to provide students with a general overview of the chemical basis of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The student will be able to understand the classical medicinal chemistry approaches of lead discovery and lead optimization. Moreover, the student will be aware of the role of the chemical properties of drug in the determination of its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and apply them in the development of new chemical entities. |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
TO LEARN, UNDERSTAND AND EMPLOY THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE IS MANDATORY TO HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE FOLLOWING COURSES: CHIMICA ORGANICA I, BIOCHIMICA GENERALE AND ALL THE I YEAR EXAMS |
Contents | |
---|---|
•DRUG DEFINITION. •MECHANISM OF ACTION DRUGS ON THE MOLECULAR LEVEL. DRUG-TARGET INTERACTION: BOUNDS INVOLVED. •MOLECULAR TARGETS OF DRUGS. ENZYMES AND ENZYMES INHIBITION; RECEPTORS AND AGONISTS AND ANTAGONISTS, •DRUG SELECTIITY •STRUCTURE ACTIVITY RELATIONSHIPS •DRUGLIKENESS •ISOMERISM AND BIOISOSTERISM IN DRUG DESIGN •DRUG DEVELOPMENT: FROM HIT IDENTIFICATION TO LEAD OPTIMIZATION •DRUG METABOLISM |
Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE INVOLVE 40 HOURS (5 CFU) OF FRONTAL LESSONS IN CLASSROOM WITH THE HELP OF DIGITAL MEDIA |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE AIMS OF THE COURSE WILL BE ASSERTED IN AN EXAMINATION. THE EXAMINATION INVOLVES A WRITTEN AND AN ORAL TEST, SCHEDULED IN DIFFERENT DAYS. THE WRITTEN TEST, WHICH IS PREPARATORY TO THE ORAL TEST, IS MADE UP OF 4 GENERAL QUESTIONS AND LAST 60 MINUTES (MAXIMUM). THE AIM OF THE WRITTEN TEST IS TO VERIFY IF THE MINIMAL OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. THE ORAL TEST IS MADE UP OF A DISCUSSION WITH THE AIM TO ATTEST THE STUDENT LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ON THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND TO PROVE THE STUDENT SKILLS IN THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF THE INFORMATION. MOREOVER, THE PURPOSE OF ORAL TEST IS TO ASCERTAIN THE STUDENT COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS. |
