THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT MODERN HISTORY, IN PARTICULAR OF EUROPE, SOCIAL AND INSTITUTIONAL PROCESSES, BUT ALSO CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS, AS WELL AS THE CLASSICAL INTERPRETATIONS OF THE CHANGE DYNAMICS THAT OCCURRED IN THE MODERN AGE. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: KNOWING THE CATEGORIES OF HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF THE MODERN AGE AND USING THEM IN EXPOSING THE HISTORICAL EVENTS STUDIED. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: TO BE ABLE TO CONNECT THE HISTORICAL PROCESSES OF THE EUROPEAN MODERN AGE WITH CURRENT SOCIAL, INSTITUTIONAL AND CULTURAL ISSUES, TO USE THEM FOR DESIGNING EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTIONS. |

THE COURSE FOCUSES ON STATE-BUILDING PROCESSES, INSTITUTIONS, CULTURE AND SOCIETY IN WHICH THE FUTURE GRADUATE SHOULD OPERATE, FOR GIVING HIM CONSCIOUSNESS, CRITICAL AND INTERPRETATIVE CAPACITIES, TO BE FUNCTIONAL TO SOCIO-EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS. A PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE RESERVED FOR THE TOPIC OF HOSPITALITY AND CARE GIVEN TO NEEDY OR DISADVANTAGED PEOPLE, PILGRIMS OR FOREIGNERS IN THE VAST HORIZON OF MANY "NATIONS" (INCLUDING THE ITALIAN ONE) OF THE SPANISH MONARCHY BETWEEN THE SIXTEENTH AND SEVENTEENTH CENTURIES. THE MAIN SUBJECTS WILL BE: EARLY MODERN STATE; FRENCH-SPANISH WARS IN THE 16TH CENTURY; PROTESTANT REFORMATION; COUNTER-REFORMATION AND CATHOLIC REFORMATION; PHILIP II’S AGE: SPANISH IMPERIAL SYSTEM, FRANCE, ENGLAND, HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE; SPANISH ITALY IN THE 16TH AND 17 TH CENTURY; ECONOMIC CRISIS, WAR AND INTERNATIONAL POLICY IN THE 17TH CENTURY; ENGLISH REVOLUTIONS; ABSOLUTISM AND “ANCIEN RÉGIME”: LOUIS XIV’S FRANCE AND EUROPE; SPANISH SUCCESSION WAR IN THE 18TH CENTURY: ITALY AND EUROPE; ENLIGHTENED ABSOLUTISM AND REFORMS IN EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY EUROPE AND ITALY; AMERICAN REVOLUTION; FRENCH REVOLUTION; NAPOLEONIC EMPIRE; HOSPITALITY AND CARE: HOSPITALS AND CULTURES OF NATIONS IN THE HISPANIC MONARCHY BETWEEN THE 16TH AND 17TH CENTURIES. |

THE COURSE AIMS TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS, SUITABLE FOR UNDERTAKING THE EDUCATIONAL PROFESSIONS WITH THE POSSESSION OF A SOLID CULTURE AND INTERPRETATIVE SKILLS. THE TEACHING METHODS ADOPTED PROMOTE THIS PROCESS, THROUGH THE INTEGRATION OF DIFFERENT ACTIONS: LECTURES ON MAIN TOPICS, SUPPORTED BY THE USE OF MASS-MEDIA TOOLS, FOLLOWED BY DISCUSSION WITH STUDENTS ON THE TEACHING USE OF THE CONTENTS; READING AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF SHORT DOCUMENTS REPRESENTING IMPORTANT HISTORICAL EVENTS. |
Verification of learning | |

FINAL ORAL EXAMINATION VERIFIES OBJECTIVES ABOUT KNOWLEDGE, CORRECT LANGUAGE, CRITICAL CAPACITIES. IT CONSISTS OF QUESTIONS ON THE SUBJECTS SUBMITTED DURING THE LESSONS AND REPERIBLE IN THE PRESCRIPTED BOOKS. IT CHECKS THE LEARNING OF THE CONTENTS, THE DISCUSSION CAPACITY, THE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE, THE POSSESS OF CONCEPTS AND CONNEXIONS. |
