- ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND HISTORICAL TEXTS. KNOWLEDGE OF THE FOUNDATIONS OF MODERN HISTORY, ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE MAIN THEMES OF THE DISCIPLINE AND TO FOLLOW THE EVENTS AND PROCESSES.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
- ABILITY TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED IN THE FIELD OF MODERN HISTORY TO ANALYZE MORE PARTICULAR PROBLEMS, BRINGING THEM TO SOLUTION.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF HISTORICAL CHRONOLOGY AND PERIODIZATION.

THE COURSE FOCUSES ON THE MAIN HISTORICAL EVENTS AND PROCESSES OF THE MODERN AGE TO OFFER STUDENTS A SOLID CULTURAL BACKGROUND AND TRANSVERSAL SKILLS THAT ARE ESSENTIAL FOR THE TEACHING PROFESSION, IN WHICH IT IS NECESSARY TO OWN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PAST IN ORDER TO EDUCATE THE PUPILS IN ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP, LEGALITY, AWARENESS OF THE ROOTS OF EUROPEAN DEVELOPMENT IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF COMPARISON AND MULTICULTURALISM. THE STUDY OF POLITICAL-INSTITUTIONAL, SOCIO-CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC EVOLUTION IN ITALY AND EUROPE WILL BE ADDRESSED IN VIEW OF A TEACHING USE OF THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE.
THE MAIN TOPICS WILL BE: EARLY MODERN STATE; FRENCH-SPANISH WARS IN THE 16TH CENTURY; PROTESTANT REFORMATION; COUNTER-REFORMATION AND CATHOLIC REFORMATION; PHILIP II’S AGE: SPANISH IMPERIAL SYSTEM, FRANCE, ENGLAND, HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE; SPANISH ITALY IN THE 16TH AND 17 TH CENTURY; CRISIS, WAR AND INTERNATIONAL POLICY IN THE 17TH CENTURY; ENGLISH REVOLUTIONS; ABSOLUTISM AND “ANCIEN RÉGIME”: LOUIS XIV’S FRANCE AND EUROPE; SPANISH SUCCESSION WAR IN THE 18TH CENTURY: ITALY AND EUROPE; ENLIGHTENED ABSOLUTISM AND REFORMS IN EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY EUROPE AND ITALY; AMERICAN REVOLUTION; FRENCH REVOLUTION; NAPOLEONIC EMPIRE.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE AIMS TO TRAIN THE FUTURE TEACHER, CAPABLE OF MASTERING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. THE TEACHING METHODS ADOPTED PROMOTE THIS PROCESS, THROUGH THE INTEGRATION OF DIFFERENT ACTIONS: LECTURES ON MAIN TOPICS, SUPPORTED BY THE USE OF MASS-MEDIA TOOLS, FOLLOWED BY DISCUSSION WITH STUDENTS ON THE TEACHING USE OF THE CONTENTS; READING AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF SHORT DOCUMENTS REPRESENTING IMPORTANT HISTORICAL EVENTS.
Verification of learning
FINAL ORAL EXAMINATION VERIFIES OBJECTIVES ABOUT KNOWLEDGE, CORRECT LANGUAGE, CRITICAL CAPACITIES. IT CONSISTS OF QUESTIONS ON THE SUBJECTS SUBMITTED DURING THE LESSONS AND REPERIBLE IN THE PRESCRIPTED BOOKS. IT CHECKS THE LEARNING OF THE CONTENTS, THE DISCUSSION CAPACITY, THE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE, THE POSSESS OF CONCEPTS AND CONNEXIONS.
