THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO CONVEY A RATIONAL APPROACH TO THE INTERACTION OF DRUG ACTIVITY AND THEIR DESIGN. AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS THAT LINK THE CHEMICAL STRUCTURE OF A DRUG TO ITS PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITY THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE CHEMICAL-PHYSICAL AND STEREO-ELECTRONIC PROPERTIES, AND OF THE MECHANISM OF ACTION. THE PURPOSE OF THE COURSE IS ALSO THE STUDY OF THE MAIN CHEMICAL-PHARMACEUTICAL STRATEGIES USEFUL FOR OPTIMIZING THE PHARMACODYNAMIC AND PHARMACOKINETIC PROPERTIES OF DRUGS. IN PARTICULAR, THE COURSE DEALS WITH THE STUDY OF DRUGS ACTIVE ON THE CENTRAL AND PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM, DRUGS OF THE CARDIO-CIRCULATORY SYSTEM, NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS, ANTIHISTAMINES, ANTI-ULCERS AND LIPID-LOWERING DRUGS. |

ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAM.THE EXAM PROVIDES FOR A PRELIMINARY WRITTEN EXAM TO AN ORAL EXAM THAT TAKES PLACE ON DIFFERENT CALENDARED DAYS. THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS OF FIVE ANSWER AND IT HAS A DURATION NOT EXCEEDING 150 MINUTES AND IS AIMED AT VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO PROPERLY APPLY THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE AND THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN WRITING. THE ORAL TEST CONSISTS OF A 25 MINUTE DISCUSSION AIMED AT ASSESSING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT ON THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS OF THE PROGRAM. THE ORAL TEST WILL ALSO ALLOW STUDENTS TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE LANGUAGE SKILLS AND AUTONOMOUS EXPOSURE ORGANIZATION ON THE SAME SUBJECTS WITH THEORETICAL CONTENT. |
