Objectives
TO PROVIDE BASIC KNOWLEDGE ON: THE STRUCTURE OF MACROMOLECULES, THE FUNCTIONING OF PROKARYOTIC AND EUKARYOTIC CELL, ANATOMICAL ORGANIZATION OF PLANTS, THE REPRODUCTIVE CYCLE OF ANGIOSPERMAE. TO DEVELOP APPROPRIATE SKILLS TO ANALYZE AND UNDERSTAND PROBLEMS OF CELL BIOLOGY AND PLANT ISTO-ANATOMY. TO COLLECT AND INTERPRET RELEVANT DATA IN THE CONTEXT OF CELL BIOLOGY AND PLANT HISTO-ANATOMY. TO COMMUNICATE INFORMATION ACQUIRED, IDEAS, ISSUES AND PROVIDE SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS OF CELL BIOLOGY AND PLANT HISTO-ANATOMY. TO HAVE DEVELOPED SKILLS SUFFICIENT TO UNDERSTAND THE ISSUES DIRECTLY RELATED TO CELL BIOLOGY AND ANATOMY PLANT HISTOLOGY IN THE SUBSEQUENT COURSES RELATED TO GENERAL BIOLOGY, PLANT ANATOMY AND ECOLOGY.
THE STUDENT WILL ALSO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN PHYSOLOGICAL, ECOLOGICAL AND BEHAVIOURAL PROCESSES CHARACTERIZING ANIMALS. THEY WILL ALSO DEVELOP AN EVOLUTIONARY PERSPECTIVE ON ANIMAL RADIATION AND WILL BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE MAIN PHYLA BASED ON THEIR DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES.

CLASSIFICATION, SYSTEMATICS AND TAXONOMY OF ANIMALS. ANALYSIS OF MAIN ANIMAL PHYLA BASED ON MORPHOLOGY, PHYSIOLOGY, ECOLOGY, BEHAVIOUR AND EVOLUTION.
Teaching Methods
THE BIOLOGY COURSE INCLUDES: LECTURES WITH THE SUPPORT OF MODERN TEACHING SUPPORTS SUCH AS PROJECTIONS BY MEANS OF MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS WITH DEDICATED EDUCATIONAL FILMS; LABORATORY PRACTICES WITH ADEQUATE EQUIPMENT SUCH AS QUALITY OPTICAL MICROSCOPES TO CONDUCT OBSERVATIONS IN AUTONOMY OF EUKARYOTE CELLS AND CELL ORGANELLES AS AMILO-LEUCOPLASTS, CHLOROPLASTS, NUCLEI AND VACUOLES, ANATOMICAL AND HISTOLOGICAL STRUCTURES OF HIGHER PLANT ORGANISMS; HANDS-ON ANALYSIS OF MORPHOLOGY OF MAIN ANIMAL PHYLA BASED ON SELECTED MUSEUM SPECIMENS.
Verification of learning
LEARNING ISSUES ADDRESSED BY THE COURSE TO THE STUDENTS WILL BE VERIFIED BY: TEST ADMINISTERED WITH REGULAR CADENCE OR AT THE END OF EACH PROPOSED SPECIFIC LECTURE TOPIC HELD BY THE PROFESSOR IN CHARGED OF THE BIOLOGY COURSE; A FINAL WRITTEN TEST BY MEANS OF RESPONSES TO MULTIPLE QUESTIONS, SHORT AND SYNTHETIC RESPONSE DISCURSIVE AND WIDE RESPONSES RELATED TOPICS FROM THE COURSE OF BIOLOGY. ORAL QUESTIONS ON TOPICS RELATED TO LABORATORY EXERCISES IN THE FIELD OF PLANT ANATOMY AND HISTOLOGY.
