The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge on the structure of macromolecules, on the functioning of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell, on the anatomical organization of plants, on the reproductive cycle of angiosperms. We also want to develop adequate skills to collect, analyze and interpret relevant data in the field of cell biology and plant histatomy. TEACHING INTENDS TO PROVIDE A SOLID BASIC CULTURE UNDER THE GENERAL BOTANY TO ACQUIRE ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE THAT ALLOWS THE STUDENT TO UNDERSTAND THE BASIC PROCESSES THAT ARE REALIZED TO THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION OF THE PLANT ORGANISM: FROM THE ATOMY, TO THE MACROMOLECULES; FROM THE CELL TO THE SUPERIOR PLANT AS A COMPLEX. TEACHING WILL ILLUSTRATE: I) THE PHYSICAL CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF WATER. II) THE STRUCTURES OF MACROMOLECULES, PROCARIOTIC AND EUCARIOTIC CELLS. III) THE ORIGIN OF LIFE. IV) ANATOMIC ORGANIZATION OF THE PLANTS. V) THE REPRODUCTIVE CYCLE OF THE ANGIOSPERMAE. THE STUDENT WILL DEVELOP ADEQUATE CAPACITIES IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND NATURAL SCIENCES TO: I) COLLECT, ANALYZE AND INTERPRET THE RELEVANT DATA ABOUT CELL BIOLOGY AND THE PLANT HISTO-ANATOMY. II) COMMUNICATE THE INFORMATION ACQUIRED, THE IDEAS AND THE PROBLEMS REGARDING PLANT BIOLOGY AND BOTANY. III) PROVIDE CELLULAR AND ISTO-ANATOMICAL BIOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS TO SPECIFIC CONCERNS. IN ADDITION, THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE THE NECESSARY COMPETENCES TO UNDERSTAND THE TOPICS RELATED TO CELLULAR BIOLOGY, ANATOMY AND HISTOLOGY OF THE PLANTS, AND TO BOTANY. THESE KNOWLEDGE WILL BE ESSENTIAL AND NECESSARY TO FACE THE NEW AND SUCCESSIVE TEACHINGS, AND / OR THE COURSES DIRECTLY RELATED TO ENVIRONMENTAL AND NATURAL SCIENCES. |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ACQUIRED BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF BOTANY, ZOOLOGY, MICROBIOLOGY, INORGANIC AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY PROVIDED BY THE HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS. |

Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE BIOLOGY COURSE PROVIDES 68 HOURS OF TEACHING INCLUDING LESSONS AND LABORATORY ACTIVITIES. THE LESSONS ON ALL ARGUMENTS OF THE COURSE WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN THE CLASSROOM. FOR LABORATORY ACTIVITIES, THE STUDENTS WILL BE ORGANIZED INTO GROUPS (UP TO 30 TO 35 STUDENTS PER GROUP) AND THEY WILL FOLLOW THREE TRAINED LABORATORY ACTIVITIES OF TWO HOURS EACH, FINALIZED TO CARRY OUT, IN AUTONOMY, THE OBSERVATIONS OF EUKARYOTIC CELL, OF THE MAIN STRUCTURES OF THE VEGETABLE CELLS, AND THE HISTOLOGICAL STRUCTURES OF THE ORGANS BY MEANS OF OPTICAL MICROSCOPY. IT IS ALSO PROVIDED A DIDACTIC VISIT AT BOTANICAL GARDENS (GIARDINI DELLA MINERVA DI SALERNO AND/OR ORTO BOTANICO DI NAPOLI). |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF TEACHING COURSE WILL BE VERIFIED BY A TEST. THIS TEST CONSTISTS ON: I) A WRITTEN TEST, BASED ON QUESTIONS WITH MULTIPLE ANSWERS (15); II) AN ORAL TEST AIMED TO EVALUATE THEIR ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE REGARDING THE TOPICS PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER DURING THE COURSE. THE FINAL GRADE WILL BE EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS. |
