GENERAL OBJECTIVE
THE PLANT PHYSIOLOGY COURSE WAS ORGANIZED IN ORDER TO STIMULATE STUDENTS TOWARDS UNDERSTANDING THE MAIN PHYSIOLOGICAL AND MOLECULAR MECHANISMS THAT REGULATE THE DIFFERENTIATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF PLANTS IN DIFFERENT CONTEXTS. DURING THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN: I) THE MAIN ASPECTS OF PLANT PHYSIOLOGY, WITH GREATER EMPHASIS ON THE EXISTING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION; THE KEY CONCEPTS OF THE MAIN PHYSIOLOGICAL PROCESSES (E.G., PHOTOSYNTHESIS); II) THE PHYSIOLOGICAL, METABOLIC AND ENERGETIC ASPECTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DIFFERENT STAGES OF PLANT DEVELOPMENT; III) PERCEPTION AND TRANSDUCTION OF ENDOGENOUS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SIGNALS AND THEIR IMPACT ON PLANT DIFFERENTIATION AND DEVELOPMENT

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE THAT HE UNDERSTANDS AND IS ABLE TO DEVELOP A DISCUSSION ON PLANT PHYSIOLOGY WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO PHOTOSYNTHESIS AND ITS ADAPTATIONS (PHOTO-RESPIRATION, C4, CAM). THE STUDENT MUST KNOW THE MECHANISMS OF MINERAL NUTRITION AND THE RELATED ASSIMILATION PROCESSES. KNOWLEDGE OF THE MECHANISMS OF WATER AND NUTRIENT ABSORPTION AS WELL AS THE TRANSPORT OF PHOTOSYNTHATES IS REQUIRED. THE STUDENT MUST KNOW THE MOST COMMON EXPERIMENTAL APPROACHES AND METHODS USED IN THE FIELD OF PLANT PHYSIOLOGY.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS MUST: I) HAVE ACQUIRED THE MAIN TOPICS OF PLANT PHYSIOLOGY (E.G., PHOTOSYNTHESIS, ABSORPTION AND TRANSPORT OF NUTRIENTS, RESPONSE TO STRESS, ETC.; II) REASONING SKILLS THAT LEAD THEM TO AUTONOMOUSLY PROCESS THE PHYSIOLOGICAL PROCESSES OF PLANTS ; INTERPRET EXPERIMENTAL LABORATORY DATA OBTAINED DURING EXPERIMENTAL LABORATORY ACTIVITIES; III) BE PREPARED TO USE SPECIFIC SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE TO COMMUNICATE THE CONTENTS LEARNED DURING THE PLANT PHYSIOLOGY COURSE ALSO THROUGH PRESENTATIONS OF TOPICS RELATING TO THE TOPICS COVERED, EXPRESSING THEIR OWN EVALUATIONS REGARDING THE TOPICS COVERED; IV) ACQUIRE ADEQUATE SKILLS AND TOOLS FOR COMMUNICATION WITH REFERENCE TO DATA PROCESSING AND PRESENTATION.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: I) EVALUATE WHICH PARTS OF EACH TOPIC, COVERED DURING THE COURSE, ARE OF GREATEST RELEVANCE AND WHICH ALLOW HIM TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF PLANT PHYSIOLOGY WITHIN THE BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES COURSE OF STUDY; DISCERN WHICH TOPICS ARE SALIENT FROM THOSE OF LESSER RELEVANCE; III) SELECT AMONG THE VARIOUS TOPICS COVERED WHICH ONES YOU COULD DELVE INTO BASED ON YOUR SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS IN THE BOTANICAL-PHYSIOLOGICAL FIELD.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE HIS KNOWLEDGE IN THE BIOLOGICAL FIELD THROUGH EXPLANATORY IMAGES THAT ALLOW HIM TO BEST ILLUSTRATE THE TOPIC(S) ON WHICH HE HAS FOCUSED HIS ATTENTION BUT ALSO THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH CONDUCTED INDEPENDENTLY.

LEARNING ABILITY
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: I) USE MORE TRADITIONAL STUDY TOOLS SUCH AS BOOKS AND NOTES BUT ALSO COMPUTER RESOURCES USEFUL FOR EXPLORING WEBSITES DEDICATED TO SCIENCE; II) CARRY OUT IN-DEPTH RESEARCH, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET SCIENTIFIC TEXTS AND SPECIALIST ARTICLES ALSO IN ENGLISH, WHICH IS THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE USED BY SCIENTISTS IN EVERY FIELD; III) THROUGH THE EXPLORATION OF THE WEB TO FIND THOSE SITES DEDICATED TO THE SCIENCES (E.G., LE SCIENZE, ETC.) THAT ALLOW THEM TO HAVE A SYSTEMIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE SCIENCES AND DELVE DEEPER INTO SPECIFIC TOPICS OF INTEREST.

Teaching Methods
LECTURES WILL BE CONDUCTED THROUGH THE AID OF A POWER POINT SUPPORT. IT IS PLANNED TO SHOW PRESENTATIONS FULL OF PICTURES, GRAPHS AND DIAGRAMS THAT ENABLE MAXIMUM UNDERSTANDING AND SYNTHESIS OF THE TOPICS COVERED.
Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATIONS AIM TO VERIFY THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EDUCATIONAL EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES. THE EXAM IS DIVIDED INTO A WRITTEN MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST AND AN ORAL TEST, TO BE TAKEN IN THE SAME CALL. THE WRITTEN TEST PROVIDES AN EVALUATION IN FIFTEENTH OR THIRTY. PASSING THE WRITTEN TEST WITH A SCORE OF AT LEAST 9/15MI OR 18/30MI IS A NECESSARY CONDITION TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THE ORAL TEST AND OBTAIN THE FINAL MARK EXPRESSED OUT OF THIRTY.
THE MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS OF THE WRITTEN EXAM (15/30) AND THE ORAL EXAM WILL HAVE TOPICS RELATED TO THE COURSE PROGRAM.
BOTH TESTS (WRITTEN AND ORAL) ALLOW TO VERIFY THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE, THE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY, THE CAPACITY OF ANALYSIS, WHICH SHOULD CONSTITUTE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE. THE ASSESSMENT TAKES TOTAL INTO ACCOUNT OF: ACQUIRED LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE; SUMMARY AND EXPOSURE CAPACITY, LANGUAGE APPROPRIATENESS; ANALYSIS CAPACITY. THE ASSESSMENT METHODS ARE DEEMED SUITABLE IN RELATION TO THE OBJECTIVES OF THE TEACHING, AND ALSO TO THE EXPECTED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. THE FINAL SCORE, EXPRESSED OUT OF 30/30, IS MADE UP OF THE AVERAGE OF THE INTERMEDIATE SCORE OBTAINED IN THE WRITTEN TEST(S), OF THE ORAL MARK. THE MINIMUM SCORE IS 18/30 SIMI WHICH EQUALS TO A MINIMUM PREPARATION OF THE STUDENT, 30/30 SIMI INSTEAD CORRESPONDS TO AN EXCELLENT PREPARATION RELATING TO THE TOPICS COVERED DURING THE COURSE, IF THE STUDENT REACHES EXCELLENCE, HE WILL BE ATTRIBUTED THE EVALUATION OF 30 /30 SIMI AND PRAISE (FULL MARK).
