Objectives
TO EXTEND AND/OR REINFORCE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED IN THE BASIC COURSES IN ORDER TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF NATURAL AND ALTERED ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS, PROMOTING THE ABILITY TO DEVELOP AND/OR IMPLEMENT ORIGINAL IDEAS.
TO DEVELOP THE ANALYTICAL SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING OF ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES IN NEW OR UNFAMILIAR AREAS INSERTED IN BROADER AND INTERDISCIPLINARY BACKGROUND.
TO PROMOTE THE INTEGRATION OF THE KNOWLEDGE AND MANAGEMENT OF THE DATA OBTAINED DURING THE COURSE IN ORDER TO MAKE JUDGMENTS ON THE BASIS OF FEW INFORMATION.
TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE THE CONCLUSIONS AND THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO SPECIALIST AND NON-SPECIALIST FOR MONITORING, PROTECTION AND CONSERVATION OF NATURAL/ALTERED SYSTEMS.

Prerequisites
FUNDAMENTALS OF GEOLOGY, GEOMORPHOLOGY, PLANT AND ANIMAL BIOLOGY, MICROBIOLOGY. FUNDAMENTALS OF INORGANIC, ORGANIC AND ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY. FUNDAMENTALS OF ECOLOGY. FUNDAMENTALS OF GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS.

EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH TO THE STUDY OF THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS THROUGH CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL ANALYSES AND GEOENVIRONMENTAL EVALUATIONS, ASSESSMENT OF ANTHROPOGENIC ALTERATIONS.
THE COURSE IS SET ON PRELIMINARY GEO-ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSES, FIELD SAMPLING, LABORATORY ANALYSES, DATA PROCESSING AND SPATIAL REPRESENTATION OF RESULTS, PRODUCTION OF THEMATIC MAPS, PREPARATION OF FINAL REPORTS.

Verification of learning
ORAL EXAMINATION CONSISTING IN THE PRESENTATION OF THE FINDINGS. THE STUDENTS WILL BE EVALUATED ON THE DEGREE OF DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR ANALYTICAL SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING OF ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES, THE ABILITY TO PROCESS DATA OBTAINED DURING THE COURSE AND PRESENT THE CONCLUSIONS, AND THE ABILITY TO STUDY IN A SELF-DIRECTED WAY.
