Objectives
GENERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES:
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF FORMS AND LANGUAGES OF MUSIC (BOTH ART AND POPULAR MUSIC) IN CONTEMPORARY WORLD. PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS PAID TO FORMAL ASPECTS, TO COMPOSITIONAL TECHNIQUES AND TO MUSIC PRODUCTION METHODS

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE SUFFICIENT FAMILIARITY WITH THE FORMS AND LANGUAGES OF MUSIC (BOTH ART AND POPULAR MUSIC) IN CONTEMPORARY WORLD.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THEIR KNOWLEDGE TO OPERATE IN THE FIELD OF MUSIC CRITICISM AND JOURNALISM. THEY WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO USE THE TOOLS OF BIBLIOGRAPHIC-MUSICAL RESEARCH TO EXPAND THEIR WEALTH OF HISTORICAL-MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE.

MAKING JUDGMENTS:
STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP CONCEPTUAL TOOLS AND CRITICAL SKILLS FOR AUTONOMOUSLY ANALYZING AND INTERPRETING THE LANGUAGES OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE BOTH TO AN AUDIENCE OF EXPERTS AND TO ONE OF NON-SPECIALISTS, WITH PROPERTY OF LANGUAGE AND APPROPRIATE VOCABULARY, AND USING THE MOST APPROPRIATE KIND OF LANGUAGE FOR EACH CIRCUMSTANCE.

LEARNING SKILLS:
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS AND USE – BOTH TRADITIONAL AND DIGITAL – BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS TO IDENTIFY AND SELECT THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE USEFUL FOR INCREASING THEIR KNOWLEDGE.
Prerequisites
GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF WESTERN ART MUSIC IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. NO PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE OF MUSIC THEORY AND NOTATION IS REQUIRED, EXCEPT FOR THE MOST BASIC MUSICAL CONCEPTS.
Contents
The course includes a series of analyses and guided listening sessions of representative musical works of the 20th and 21th centuries, relating to various genres and traditions, both cultured and popular. A large space will be dedicated to the study of the musical forms and languages (especially harmonic language) and to the compositional techniques and the production methods. Some of the most important methodological orientations of musical analysis will also be taken into consideration.

Verification of learning
Attending students will take a test on the Moodle platform. The questions will be based on the lesson content.
