THE COURSE COVERS THE MAIN ECONOMIC AND ECONOMIC POLICY ASPECTS OF THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATION PROCESS:

KNOWLEDGE OF MICRO- AND MACROECONOMIC THEORIES OF ECONOMIC INTEGRATION, THEORIES OF OPTIMUM CURRENCY AREAS, MONETARY POLICY, TRADE, LABOUR MARKETS AND COMPETITION.
KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE PROCESS OF EUROPEAN INTEGRATION, THE EUROPEAN UNION, AND THE EUROPEAN MONETARY UNION, THEIR INSTITUTIONS AND ACTIVITIES, AND MAJOR ECONOMIC FIELDS AFFECTED BY THEM

APPLICATION OF THEORIES ON ECONOMIC INTEGRATION FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE CURRENT SITUATION/FUTURE PERSPECTIVE OF THE EU/EMU.

Contents
THE COURSE (IN ENGLISH) IS STRUCTURED IN 2 MODULES.
THE FIRST MODULE COVERSTHE MICROECONOMICS OF EUROPEAN INTEGRATION. IN PARTICULAR 8 HOURS WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE HISTORY, FACTS AND INSTITUTIONS OF THE EU AND ALSO TO THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS (CH.1-3). 18 HOURS WILL BE USED TO COVER THE ESSENTIAL MICROECONOMIC TOOLS AND TARIFF ANALYSIS, THE ESSENTIAL ECONOMICS OF PREFERENTIAL LIBERALIZATION, MARKET SIZE AND SCALE EFFECTS, GROWTH EFFECTS AND FACTOR MARKET INTEGRATION, ECONOMIC INTEGRATION, LABOUR MARKETS AND MIGRATION (CH.4-8). FINALLY 4 HOURS WILL BE DEDICATED TO ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF COVID PANDEMIC ON EU (CH.20-ONLINE). THE SECOND MODULE ANALYSES EU MICRO POLICIES. IN DETAIL 16 HOURS WILL BE DEVOTED TO THE COMMON AGRICALTURAL POLICY, TO THE REGIONAL POLICIES, TO THE COMPETITION AND AID POLICIES, TO THE EU TRADE POLICY (CAP. 9-12). 10 HOURS WILL BE DEVOTED TO THE MONETARY AND FISCAL EU POLICIES (EMU POLICIES, FISCAL POLICY AND STABILITY PACT, EUROZONE CRISIS) (CHAP. 16-17 AND 19). FINALLY 4 HOURS WILL BE DEVOTED TO DEEPEN THE ANALYSIS OF THE VERY IMPORTANT AND RECENT ISSUE OF THE EFFECTS OF BREXIT ON EU (CHAP. 21-ONLINE).

THE FINAL ASSESMENT IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS THAT REFLECT THE TWO MODULES DESCRIBED IN THE CONTENTS.THE FINAL SCORE WILL BE A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE SCORES OBTAINED IN THE TWO TESTS.


FIRST MODULE: THE EXAM IS WRITTEN WITH OPEN ANSWERED QUESTIONS. IT CONCERNS THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE AND VERIFIES THE DEGREE OF KNOWLEDGE, OF BOTH THE THEORETICAL/ANALYTICAL TOOLS, AND THE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATION PROCESS. THE OPEN QUESTIONS VERIFY IN PARTICULAR THE ABILITY TO USE THE NOTIONS ACQUIRED TO A SPECIFIC TOPIC. STUDENTS WHO HAVE OBTAINED A MINIMUM GRADE OF 18/30 CAN (IT IS NOT COMPULOSRY THE ORAL EXAME) ACCESS TO THE ORAL EXAM. THE ORAL TEST CONCERNS THE SAME TOPICS AS THE WRITTEN TEST AND VERIFIES THE DEGREE OF KNOWLEDGE AND ARGUMENTATION ABILITY ON THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE.
STUDENTS, ATTENDING THE COURSE, CAN TAKE THE EXAM OF THE FIRST MODULE AT THE END OF THE 5 WEEKS OF COURSE.
