THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE TOOLS AND METHODS OF THE DISCIPLINE IN ORDER TO KNOW THE HISTORICAL-GEOGRAPHICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS RELATED TO FOREIGN LANGUAGES STUDIED OR RELATED TO POSSIBLE PROFESSIONAL FIELDS. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING - THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT: - TERRITORIAL STRUCTURE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION; - THEORETICAL ASPECTS RELATED TO ENVIRONMENTAL, DEMOGRAPHIC AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC ISSUES; - RELATIONS BETWEEN THE DEMOGRAPHIC COMPONENT AND THE ENVIRONMENT; - TOPICS AND ISSUES OF TOPICAL GEOGRAPHICAL INTEREST; - THE GREAT THEMES OF GEOGRAPHY FROM THE CONCEPT OF PLACE, SPACE, SCALE, ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING - THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE DISCIPLINE, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - USE AND GRAPHICALLY REPRESENT SPATIAL DATA; - ANALYSE GEOGRAPHIC PHENOMENA AND INTERPRET THEM IN A CONTEXTUALIZED WAY; - TO CORRELATE DISCIPLINARY THEMES WITH PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES OF A CONTEMPORARY NATURE; - EVALUATE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MAN AND ENVIRONMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL INTERACTION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, FORMS OF CULTURAL DYNAMISM. AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT - THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE THE FOLLOWING TRANSVERSAL SKILLS: - COMPARE IDEAS AND HYPOTHESES IN RELATION TO THEMES OF REFLECTION AND STUDY; - TO DEEPEN AND DISCERN RELEVANT THEMES WITH RESPECT TO MORE GENERAL PHENOMENA ADDRESSED; - MAKE A SELECTION OF DATA OR SOURCES FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF RESEARCH AND IN-DEPTH OBJECTIVES. COMMUNICATIVE ABILITY - THE STUDENT WILL KNOW: - ORGANIZE STUDIES AND RESEARCH RESULTS IN DOCUMENTARY, GRAPHIC AND ICONOGRAPHIC VERSIONS; - BRIEFLY REPORT THE RESULTS OF COLLECTIVE OR INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH AND STUDIES; - DEAL WITH PARTICIPATION IN GROUP WORK. LEARNING ABILITY - THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - CONSULT AND USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING - TO BE UPDATED INDEPENDENTLY OBTAINING FROM THE HERITAGE OF SCIENTIFIC SOURCES (MAGAZINES, MONOGRAPHS, CONGRESS PROCEEDINGS, ETC.). |

STARTING FROM THE KEY CONCEPTS OF GEOGRAPHY, REGARDING SPACE, PLACE, SCALE, TERRITORY, AND LANDSCAPE, WE WANT TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS, “WHO”, “WHAT”,”WHERE”, “WHEN”, “WHY”, GEOGRAPHIC PROCESSES OCCUR BOTH AT A GLOBAL AND A LOCAL SCALE, RELATED TO THE DYNAMICS OF POPULATION, THE VALUE OF MIGRATIONS, THE CULTURAL PERSISTENCE BETWEEN GLOBAL COMMERCIALIZATION AND LOCAL KNOWLEDGE, THE ROLE OF LANGUAGES, ETHNICITY, RELIGION BETWEEN TERRITORIAL IDENTITY, TO THE CHALLENGES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. SPECIFICALLY, THE PROGRAM WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: • EPISTEMOLOGICAL INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN GEOGRAPHY: OBJECTIVES, METHODS AND SOURCES. THE CONCEPTS OF DETERMINISM AND POSSIBILISM. • DEMOGRAPHIC MODELS AND PROCESSES: FOUNDATIONS OF POPULATION GEOGRAPHY, DEMOGRAPHIC PROCESSES AND CYCLES, MIGRATIONS. - CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY: THE GLOBAL MOSAIC LINGUISTIC AND RELIGION. - ENVIRONMENT, AGRICULTURE AND FOOD. - URBANISM. - THE GEOGRAPHY OF ECONOMIC CHANGES. - THE POLITICAL IMPRINT. - SOCIAL GEOGRAPHIES OF THE MODERN WORLD. - ANTHROPOCENTRISM: THE MAN WHO CHANGES THE ENVIRONMENT BETWEEN ACTIONS AND FEEDBACK. - CARTOGRAPHY. |

VERIFICATION OF LEARNING THE EXAMINATION INVOLVES THE CARRYING OUT OF A WRITTEN TEST IN PRELIMINARY TO THE ORAL EXAMINATION. THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY HAVE ACQUIRED THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 1. MAIN TOOLS AND LANGUAGES OF GEOGRAPHICAL ANALYSIS. 2. MASTERY OF THE TOPICS ANALYZED DURING THE LESSONS. 3. READING AND COMMENTING ON DIFFERENT TYPES OF GEOGRAPHIC MAPS. |
