GENERAL OBJECTIVE THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE IS TO PROVIDE CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE PHYSICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EARTHQUAKE GENERATION PROCESSES, NATURAL AND INDUCED, AND OF THE EFFECTS ON THE NATURAL AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT, FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF METHODOLOGIES AIMED AT REDUCING SEISMIC RISK KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING - UNDERSTANDING OF THE THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL BASES OF THE MAIN PROCESSES IN SEISMOLOGY WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE STUDY OF THE SOURCE AND THE PROPAGATION MEDIUM - KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FOR THE ACQUISITION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF SEISMOLOGICAL MEASUREMENTS - KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODOLOGIES AIMED AT ASSESSING SEISMIC HAZARD - KNOWLEDGE OF METHODOLOGIES AIMED AT REDUCING SEISMIC RISK APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING - ABILITY TO USE SEISMIC SENSORS OF DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS - ABILITY TO PERFORM CALCULATIONS RELATING TO: EARTHQUAKE LOCALIZATION, MAGNITUDE ESTIMATION, EVALUATION OF FOCAL MECHANISMS - ABILITY TO EVALUATE THE SEISMIC HAZARD OF A REGION - ABILITY TO EVALUATE SITE EFFECTS, IN RELATION TO THE MAXIMUM EXPECTED GROUND ACCELERATIONS MAKING JUDGEMENTS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY EVALUATE: - THE VALIDITY AND LIMITS OF APPROXIMATION OF INTERPRETATIVE MODELS OF THE ELASTIC BEHAVIOR OF TERRESTRIAL ROCKS - THE AREAS OF USE OF THE DIFFERENT SEISMOLOGICAL PROCEDURES TO UNDERSTAND THE CRITERIA THAT REGULATE THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SEISMIC SOURCE AND THE PROPAGATION MEDIUM COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO HOLD CONVERSATIONS ON TOPICS RELATED TO THE FOUNDATIONS OF SEISMOLOGY, HAZARD AND SEISMIC RISK, WITH LANGUAGE SKILLS AND AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATION OF THE PRESENTATION, WITH ADEQUATE SCIENTIFIC TERMINOLOGY AND WITH THE AID OF ADEQUATE TOOLS FOR REPRESENTATION MATHEMATICS AND GRAPHICS OF THE MAIN PHENOMENA DESCRIBED. |

THE LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED GETTING THROUGH AN ORAL EXAMINATION, WITH EVALUATION IN THIRTIETHS. THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS ALSO IN THE DISCUSSION OF A TECHNICAL REPORT ON THE FIELD AND/OR LAB EXPERIMENTS. THE TEST IS INTENDED EXCEEDED WITH A MINIMUM VOTE OF 18/30. THE ORAL TEST (ABOUT 40MIN) IS FINALIZED TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING REACHED BY THE STUDENT ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE PROGRAM AND THE VERIFICATION OF THE ACQUISITION OF APPROPRIATE SKILL AND CRITICAL SENSE ON THE ANALYSIS OF EARTHQUAKE PROCESSES. ORAL TEST WILL VERIFY THE COMMUNICATION CAPACITY WITH LANGUAGE PROPERTIES AND AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATION OF EXPOSURE. THE MINIMUM EVALUATION LEVEL (18) IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN PROCESSES GOVERNING THE SEISMIC PHENOMENON AND HIGHLIGHTS UNCERTAINTIES IN THE CAPACITY OF EVALUATE THE MAIN SEISMOLOGICAL PARAMETERS BASED ON THE ANALYSIS OF A SEISMIC RECORDING. THE MAXIMUM LEVEL (30) IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS A COMPLETE AND DEEPENED KNOWLEDGE OF THE SEISMIC PROCESS BOTH FROM THE KINEMATIC AND DYNAMIC POINT OF VIEW AND IT IS ABLE TO EVALUATE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PROCESS FROM THE SEISMOGRAM ANALYSIS. THE PRAISE IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS FULL MASTERY OF THEORETICAL AND APPLICATIVE CONTENTS AND HE IS ABLE TO ARGUE WITH LANGUAGE SKILL AND INDEPENDENT PROCESSING CAPACITY. |
