Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO IMPROVE THE KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH THROUGH:
-A REVISION OF THE PHONOLOGICAL AND SYNTACTIC SYSTEMS WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON SPECIALIZED VOCABULARY.
- THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE AIMS AND FUNCTIONS OF WRITTEN ARGUMENTATIVE AND ORAL TEXTS (PRESENTATION AND DESCRIPTION OF EXHIBITIONS AND ONGOING PROJECTS AT THE BRITISH LIBRARY).
- THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE INFORMATIVE STRUCTURE OF A WRITTEN AND ORAL TEXT.
- CREATION OF (WRITTEN AND ORAL) TEXTS DEALING WITH THEMES THAT ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE COURSE OF STUDY.
COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS
- ABILITY TO CLEARLY COMMUNICATE THE ESSENTIAL CONTENTS OF A SPECIALIZED TEXT THROUGH APPROPRIATE LEXICAL AND GRAMMATICAL CHOICES.
- ABILITY TO CLEARLY INTERACT IN ARTICULATED CONVERSATIONS ON TOPICS OF PROFESSIONAL INTEREST.
-USE OF CORRECT PRONUNCIATION

Prerequisites
- KNOWLEDGE OF GENERAL ENGLISH (3 CREDITS-LABORATORIO DI LINGUA INGLESE)
-KNOWLEDGE OF FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH PHONOLOGY, MORPHOLOGY AND SYNTAX (B1 LEVEL OF THE CEFR CORRESPONDING TO THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTION: [THE SPEAKER]CAN UNDERSTAND THE MAIN IDEAS OF COMPLEX TEXTS ON BOTH CONCRETE AND ABSTRACT TOPICS, INCLUDING TECHNICAL DISCUSSIONS IN HIS/HER FIELD OF SPECIALISATION. CAN PRODUCE CLEAR, DETAILED TEXTS ON A WIDE RANGE OF SUBJECTS AND EXPLAIN A VIEWPOINT ON A TOPICAL ISSUE.

MODULE I: GRAMMAR REVISION
-INFORMATION FLOW WITHIN TEXTS; USING SIMPLE AND COMPLEX NOUN PHRASES.
-EXPRESSING LOGICAL LINKS: LINKING WORDS; SIMPLE AND COMPOUND SENTENCES.
-IMPERSONAL SENTENCE STRUCTURE TO DISCUSS OPINIONS AND REFER TO DATA.
-USING RELATIVE CLAUSES.
MODULE II: PRONUNCIATION AND INTONATION
-VOWEL AND CONSONANT SOUNDS; DIPHTHONGS.
-WORD STRESS PATTERNS (MONO-, BI-, PLURISYLLABIC WORDS ).
-SENTENCE STRESS AND INTONATION.
-SOUNDS IN CONNECTED SPEECH AND CONSONANT CLUSTERS.
MODULE III: READING AND LISTENING COMPREHENSION
-LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT TEXT TYPES ABOUT SPECIALISED TOPICS.
-LISTENING ACTIVITIES BASED ON AUTHENTIC AUDIO/VIDEO MATERIALS.
