Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE.
THE COURSE AIMS TO ENABLE LEARNING OF THE CONCEPTS OF CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND ENERGY-ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY RELATED TO THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS, ACCORDING TO THE PRINCIPLES OF LIFE CYCLE DESIGN. ALSO, IT AIMS TO PROVIDE THE PRINCIPLES OF ANALYSIS, TECHNICAL DESIGN AND DURABILITY OF SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING ALSO FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF REUSE, RECYCLING AND RECOVERY OF MATERIALS, ACCORDING TO A CIRCULAR ECONOMY PHILOSOPHY OF THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS
THE STUDENT:
- WILL ACQUIRE SKILLS RELATED TO THE SUSTAINABILITY OF CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS;
- WILL BE FAMILIAR WITH THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND ENERGY-ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH THE ASSESSMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS THROUGHOUT THE LIFE CYCLE OF PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES IN THE DESIGN/CONSTRUCTION/MAINTENANCE OF CIVIL AND INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- APPLY ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO QUANTIFY AND ASSESS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS WITH RESPECT TO CIVIL WORKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE;
- SELECT SUSTAINABLE DESIGN CHOICES THROUGH THE USE OF "GREEN" MATERIALS AND INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGICAL SYSTEMS.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- HANDLE INFORMATION AND DATA OBTAINED FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES IN ORDER TO ANALYZE AND PROCESS THEM IN ORDER TO MAKE POSSIBLE PROPOSALS FOR ACTION;
- INDEPENDENTLY EVALUATE ENVIRONMENTAL FALLOUT OF A SPECIFIC PRODUCTION PROCESS;
-IDENTIFY POSSIBLE TECHNICAL IMPROVEMENT SOLUTIONS WITH A VIEW TO SUSTAINABILITY.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- CRITICALLY ANALYZE, PROPOSE AND DISCUSS THE RESULTS OF THEIR ANALYSIS WITH SPECIALIST AND NON-SPECIALIST INTERLOCUTORS REGARDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF ECO-SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS, TECHNOLOGICAL SYSTEMS AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES.
LEARNING SKILLS.
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- INDEPENDENTLY EXPLORE SUSTAINABILITY ISSUES IN DEPTH FROM THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED;
-USE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND TOOLS IN ALL POSSIBLE AREAS OF THE CIVIL AND INFRASTRUCTURAL WORKS SECTOR IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS AND WITH A VIEW TO THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY.

Teaching Methods
DURING THE COURSE, THERE WILL BE THEORETICAL LECTURES DELIVERED IN FACE-TO-FACE MODE (CORRESPONDING TO APPROXIMATELY 5 CFU) AND LABORATORY AND SEMINAR ACTIVITIES (CORRESPONDING TO APPROXIMATELY 1 CFU). ATTENDANCE IS NOT COMPULSORY, BUT ASSIDUOUS PARTICIPATION IN THE COURSE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Verification of learning
THE ASSESSMENT OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SET OBJECTIVES WILL TAKE THE FORM OF AN ORAL INTERVIEW, LASTING APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR, WHICH EACH STUDENT MAY TAKE FROM THE END OF THE COURSE. THE GRADE ACHIEVED WILL DEPEND ON THE MATURITY ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT AND WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE QUALITY OF THE ORAL EXPOSITION, KNOWLEDGE OF THE DISCIPLINE, THE ABILITY TO SOLVE THE MAIN APPLICATION QUESTIONS, AND THE LEVEL OF THOROUGHNESS OF A PAPER CONCERNING THE SIMPLIFIED LCA EVALUATION OF AN ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT CHOSEN BY THE STUDENT.
