THE LECTURES ARE ADDRESSED TO THOSE STUDENTS WHO CONSIDER THE POSSIBILITY OF TEACHING HUMAN SCIENCES AND PHILOSOPHY IN THE SCHOOL. ABILITY OF APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: STUDENTS LEARN TO USE CRITICALLY HANDBOOKS AND ESSAYS CONCERNING PHILOSOPHICAL THINKING, TO USE ARGUMENTATION FOR FACING AND DISCUSSING PHILOSOPHICAL TOPICS, TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPLICATIONS OF PHILOSOPHICAL ASSUMPTIONS FOR THE OTHER ISSUES OF HUMAN SCIENCES AND EDUCATION.

Contents
LECTURES IN HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY (WINTER SEMESTER)
THIS PART OF THE TEACHING OFFERS A BASIC BUT LOGICALLY STRUCTURED INTRODUCTION TO THE GREAT TRADITIONS OF WESTERN PHILOSOPHY. THE FIGURES WHICH ARE TAKEN AS PARTICULARLY REPRESENTATIVE ARE: PLATO, ARISTOTLE, AUGUSTIN, AQUINAS, DESCARTES, SPINOZA, LEIBNIZ, VICO, HUME, KANT, HEGEL, NIETZSCHE. THE HISTORICAL FRAME INCLUDES ALSO THE RELATIONS BETWEEN THE SINGLE PHILOSOPHERS AND THE WIDER CULTURAL MOVEMENTS (F. I. SCHOLASTICS, SCIENTIFIC REVOLUTION, ENLIGHTENMENT) THEY BELONG TO, STUDENTS WHO DO NOT PARTICIPATE CONSTANTLY HAVE THEREFORE TO READ CAREFULLY THE MATERIALS FROM THE LECTURES WHICH ARE OFFERED BY THE TEACHER ON HIS WEBPAGE.
LECTURES IN THEORETICAL PHILOSOPHY (SUMMER SEMESTER)
THAT IS BOUND TO CONTEMPORARY PHILOSPHY, WILL BE INTRODUCED BY AN EXPLANATION OF NINETEENTH CENTURY'S THEMES AND PROBLEMS, FOLLOWING UP THE PATH IN THE HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY THAT THE STUDENTS HAD ALREADY THE CHANCE TO PURSUE AND TO COMPREHEND DURING THE FIRST MODULE.
IN ORDER TO MAKE THE UNDERSTANDING OF COMPLEX STRUCTURES OF THOUGHT EASIER, THE COURSE WILL BE DIVIDED IN TWO SEGMENT. THE FIRST ONE FOCUSED ON PHILOSOPHY OF '900, WHILE THE SECOND ONE, FOCUSED ON THOUGHT OF J-L- NANCY IN THE VOLUME TITLED “UN PENSIERO FINITO”. BOTH TEXTS WILL BE RED AND COMMENTED FOLLOWING A THEORETICAL SPECULATION..
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING USES THE FOLLOWING METHODOLOGIES:
-LECTURES WITH WIDE CONTENTS, WITH A FINAL DISCUSSION ON THE CENTRAL TOPICS OF THE LESSON.
-LECTURES TRANSMITTING MORE APPLICATIVE KNOWLEDGES AND WHICH ARE FOLLOWED BY EXERCISES AND PROBLEMS ON WHICH THE CLASS WORKS IN ORDER TO FIND SOLUTIONS.
-LECTURES BASED ON TEXTS, WITH THEIR ANALYSIS AND THE DISCUSSION BY THE WHOLE CLASS.
- PROJECTION OF MOVIES AND VIDEOS CONCERNING THE TOPICS WHICH WERE ADDRESSED
SINGLE ISSUES CAN BE DEVELOPED THROUGH SEMINARIAL METHODS AND – MAINLY AT THE GOAL TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ ARGUMENTATION ABILITIES – MAY BE DEVELOPED IN THE LOGIC OF A “ENQUIRE COMMUNITY” OR THROUGH THE METHOD OF “DEBATE”.
Verification of learning
THE FINAL PROOF IS ORGANIZED AS AN ORAL INTERVIEW IN THE COURSE OF WHICH THE SINGLE STUDENT DISCUSSES WITH THE TEACHERS AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT ISSUES FOR EACH OF THE TWO PARTS OF THE WHOLE TEACHING.
STUDENTS WHO PREFER DIFFERENT STEPS FOR THE PROOF MAY PARTECIPATE TO THE WRITTEN PROOF IN "HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY" WHICH USUALLY IS FIXED BETWEEN THE END OF THE WINTER SEMESTER AND THE BEGINNING OF THE SUMMER SEMESTER. THIS PROOF IS STRUCTURED AS A TEST WITH BOTH QUESTIONS WITH ALREADY GIVEN ANSWERS TO SELECT AND A SHORT COMPOSITION ON AT LEAST 2 MORE GENERAL ISSUES AMONG THOSE PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER: THIS PROOF ELIMINATES THE ORAL PROOF FOR “HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY” IF AND ONLY IF THE STUDENT ACCEPTS THE EVALUATION PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER.
IN ABSENCE OF FORMER INTERCOURSE PROOFS, THE ORAL INTERVIEW USUALLY INCLUDES THE DISCUSSION OF AT LEAST THREE ISSUES OF THE LECTURES FOR EACH OF THE TWO PARTS OF THE TEACHING.
THE ORAL PERFORMANCE OF THE STUDENT IS EVALUATED ON THE BASIS OF THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES: (I) THE COMPLETENESS OF THE INFORMATION CONCERNING THE ISSUE; (II) THE ABILITY OF EXPOUNDING CLEARLY AND ANALYSING LOGICALLY THE POINTS; (III) THE ABILITY OF USING CORRECTLY THE PHILOSOPHIC TERMINOLOGY AND PROPERLY DEFINING WORDS. THE ABILITIES TO SKETCH COMPARISONS BETWEEN PHILOSOPHICAL VIEWS, TO CONNECT PHILOSOPHICAL CLAIMS, TO ARRIVE TO AUTONOMOUSLY GROUNDED JUDGEMENTS, ARE OTHER ELEMENTS WHICH CONCUR TO A POSITIVE EVALUATIONS.
