THIS COURSE INVOLVES A GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE EVOLUTION OF FRENCH POETRY. THROUGH RESPONDING TO SELECTION OF POEMS PRESENTED IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER, STUDENTS CONSIDER THE EVOLUTION OF POETICAL LANGUAGE, STRUCTURE AND CONVENTIONS. WHILE GAINING AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE STYLISTIC AND RHETORICAL DEVICES USED BY THE AUTHORS, STUDENTS WILL ALSO DEVELOP ANALYTICAL AND CRITICAL THINKING ABOUT FRENCH POETRY IN A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE AND DISCUSS EVOLUTION AND PERSISTENCY OF SPECIFIC POETICAL THEMES. |

STUDENTS’ ABILITY OF SPEAKING ABOUT THE MAIN THEMES OF FRENCH POETRY’S EVOLUTION AND ANALYSING LITERARY TEXTS WILL ALSO BE TESTED. THE KNOWLEDGE OF CRITICAL WORKS/ESSAYS LISTED IN THE PROGRAMME IS ALSO NEEDED. LITERARY WORKS MUST BE READ IN FRENCH. |
