Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO:
-IMPROVE THEIR CRITICAL AWARENESS FOR TEXTUAL ANALYSIS AND ITS STYLISTIC, RHETORICAL, SEMANTIC, CULTURAL AND IDEOLOGICAL ASPECTS;
-IMPROVE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE DIFFERENT METHODOLOGIES AND CRITICAL APPROACHES TO LITERARY WORKS;
-FURTHER DEVELOP THE STUDENTS’ KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF FRENCH LITERATURE, OFFERING AN INITIATION TO RESEARCH ON A SPECIFIC THEME OR CHRONOLOGY.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL:
-KNOW ABOUT FRENCH LITERARY HISTORY AND FRENCH CULTURE;
-KNOW ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LITERARY WORKS AND THEIR HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS THROUGHOUT THE CENTURIES;
-BE AWARE OF THE MAIN CRITICAL POSITIONS REGARDING THE THEMES OF THE COURSE;
-LEARN THE MAIN AESTHETIC-LITERARY MOVEMENTS OF FRENCH LITERATURE IN DEPTH
-KNOW ABOUT THE METHODOLOGIES TO ANALYSE LITERARY TEXTS, ALSO THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE CRITICAL DEBATE IN THE LITERARY AND CULTURAL FIELD.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-ANALYSE DIFFERENT TEXTUAL FORMS (MANUSCRIPTS, DOCUMENTS, ETC.) FROM THE PHILOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW;
-CARRY OUT RESEARCH ON LITERARY THEMES;
-PRODUCE ARTICULATED ORAL AND WRITTEN ANALYSES OF LITERARY TEXTS IN FRENCH;
-INDEPENDENTLY APPLY AND/OR DEVELOP CRITICAL TECHNIQUES AND APPROPRIATE METHODOLOGIES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEXTS.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-HAVE A CRITICAL APPROACH TO PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES;
-DEVELOP AUTONOMOUS CRITICAL DISCOURSES SUPPORTED BY THE STUDY OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES;
-APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED IN THE FIELD OF FRENCH LITERATURE IN DIFFERENT CULTURAL AND PROFESSIONAL FIELDS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-EXPOSE THEIR OWN CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE AESTHETIC NOTIONS ADDRESSED DURING THE COURSE IN A CLEAR AND SYNTHETIC ORAL OR WRITTEN FRENCH AS WELL AS OFFER EXAMPLES FROM THE LITERATURE THAT CONFIRM THEIR VALIDITY AND COMPLEX USE;
-EXPRESS THEIR PERSONAL CONSIDERATIONS AND REFLECTIONS ON THE TOPICS ADDRESSED IN THE COURSE.

STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND ONLINE DATABASES
-CARRY OUT RESEARCH, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX LITERARY AND PARA-LITERARY TEXTS
-CONTINUOUSLY UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE THROUGH THE TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE AND THE CORRECT IT TOOLS
Prerequisites
STUDENTS MUST HAVE PASSED THE FOLLOWING EXAMS: FRENCH LITERATURE 4; AND FRENCH
LANGUAGE 4.

Verification of learning
FINAL ORAL TESTING IN FRENCH. STUDENTS MUST BE ABLE TO PRODUCE INDIVIDUAL ANALYSIS OF TEXTS PRESENTED DURING CLASSES, PROVING CRITICAL AWARENESS OF LITERARY CRITICISM AND ITS DIFFERENT APPROACHES.
THE EVALUATION WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT :
- THE QUALITY OF PRESENTATION, CORRECT USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE
- THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF INFORMATION
- THE ABILITY TO CREATE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN DIFFERENT TOPICS BOTH IN AND OUTSIDE OF THE PROGRAMME
- INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

STUDENT ACHIEVES THE MAXIMUM MARK IF THEY ARE ABLE TO DEAL WITH ORIGINAL (OR NOT EXPRESSLY DEALT WITH IN CLASS) TOPICS AND TO PRESENT THEIR CONSIDERATIONS USING EXAMPLES TAKEN FROM LITERARY WORKS EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT EXPRESSLY INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAMME.
