Objectives
THE TEACHING AIMS TO:
- TO MAKE STUDENTS ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ROLE PLAYED BY CERTAIN AUTHORS AND THEIR WORKS IN THE EVOLUTION OF POETIC LANGUAGE;
- TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO PLACE WORKS IN THE IDEOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS OF THEIR RESPECTIVE ERAS;
- TO INCREASE THE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE THE STYLISTIC AND RHETORICAL DEVICES OF LITERARY WORKS BY FOCUSING ON THOSE PECULIAR TO POETRY.

THE STUDENT(S):
- WILL EXPAND KNOWLEDGE OF FRENCH LITERARY HISTORY BETWEEN THE XVII-XX CENTURIES;
- WILL KNOW THE PRECIPITOUS STRUCTURES, FORMS AND TRENDS OF THE POETIC GENRE;
- WILL KNOW SOME STYLISTIC AND LITERARY TECHNIQUES CHARACTERIZING THE AUTHORS AND WORKS STUDIED;
- WILL KNOW THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT IN THE DIFFERENT CENTURIES UNDER STUDY;
- WILL UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LITERARY WORKS AND HISTORICAL-CULTURAL CONTEXTS IN THE CENTURIES STUDIED;
- WILL UNDERSTAND THE USE OF THE TOOLS OF CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF POETIC TEXTS;
- WILL KNOW CRITICAL VOCABULARY.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

THE STUDENT(S) WILL BE ABLE TO:
- RECOGNIZE THE EVOLUTION OF STRUCTURES, FORMS AND TRENDS IN THE POETIC GENRE;
- RECOGNIZE IN THE WORK THE RELATIONSHIPS OF CONTINUITY OR RUPTURE WITH THE LITERARY TRADITION;
- ANALYZE THE VARIOUS NARRATIVE, STYLISTIC AND RHETORICAL TECHNIQUES PRESENT IN THE POETIC WORK;
- EXAMINE THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE WORKS STUDIED AND THE CHANGING HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS IN WHICH THEY EMERGE;
- CONNECT THE WORK TO OTHER TEXTS WITHIN THE BROADER LITERARY-HISTORICAL FRAMEWORK;
- INDEPENDENTLY REWORK THE MATERIAL STUDIED

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT

THE STUDENT(S) WILL BE ABLE TO:
- FORMULATE HYPOTHESES, RECOGNIZE LOGICAL CONNECTIONS, ARGUE, COMPARE AND EVALUATE LITERARY TEXTS;
- CRITICALLY SELECT INFORMATION, BIBLIOGRAPHICAL AND LITERARY SOURCES FOR THE COMPARATIVE STUDY OF LITERARY WORKS;
- SITUATE AND CONSIDER LITERARY PHENOMENA IN RELATION TO THEIR CULTURAL AND SPATIAL CONTEXTS OF REFERENCE AS WELL AS THEIR TEMPORAL EVOLUTION;

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- COMMUNICATE IN FRENCH ABOUT FRENCH-LANGUAGE TEXTS;
- REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE IN FRENCH, THROUGH TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, RESULTS OF THEIR OWN RESEARCH OR ELABORATIONS.

LEARNING SKILLS

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING;
- CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS, WHETHER OF A PUBLISHING OR LITERARY NATURE;
- PROCEED TO THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE.

STUDENTS MUST HAVE PASSED THE FOLLOWING EXAMS: FRENCH LITERATURE 2 AND FRENCH LANGUAGE 2.

7.POETRY AFTER BAUDELAIRE (VERLAINE, RIMBAUD, MALLARMÉ (8 H)

Teaching Methods
TEACHER-LED CLASSES (36 HOURS). TEACHER-LED CLASSES IN FRENCH. ANALYSIS OF EXTRACTS FROM THE TEXTS INCLUDED IN THE READING LIST. ACTIVE LECTURE, INTERACTIVE LESSONS, COLLABORATIVE AND COOPERATIVE TASKS. STUDENTS ARE WARMLY INVITED TO ATTEND.
Verification of learning
FINAL ORAL TESTING IN FRENCH. ALL THE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED FLUENCY IN THE EXPOSITION OF SPECIFIC CONCEPTS, ABILITY OF ORGANIZING A COMPLEX SPEECH ABOUT PROBLEMS, AUTHORS AND WORKS DISCUSSED IN THE COURSE. STUDENTS’ ABILITY OF SPEAKING ABOUT THE MAIN THEMES OF FRENCH POETRY’S EVOLUTION AND ANALYSING LITERARY TEXTS WILL ALSO BE TESTED. THE KNOWLEDGE OF CRITICAL WORKS/ESSAYS LISTED IN THE PROGRAMME IS ALSO NEEDED. LITERARY WORKS MUST BE READ IN FRENCH. ATTENDING STUDENTS CAN TAKE OPTIONAL PARTIALS BEFORE THE FINAL ORAL EXAM.
THE EVALUATION WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT :
- THE QUALITY OF PRESENTATION, CORRECT USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE
- THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF INFORMATION
- THE ABILITY TO CREATE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN DIFFERENT TOPICS BOTH IN AND OUTSIDE OF THE PROGRAMME
- INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

STUDENT ACHIEVES THE MAXIMUM MARK IF THEY ARE ABLE TO DEAL WITH ORIGINAL (OR NOT EXPRESSLY DEALT WITH IN CLASS) TOPICS AND TO PRESENT THEIR CONSIDERATIONS USING EXAMPLES TAKEN FROM LITERARY WORKS EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT EXPRESSLY INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAMME.

ATTENDING STUDENTS CAN TAKE ONE OPTIONAL PARTIAL BEFORE THE FINAL ORAL EXAM. THE OUTCOME OF THE PARTIAL CORRESPONDS TO 50% OF THE THE FINAL MARK (OUT OF 30). THE FINAL MARK IS ATTRIBUTED DURING THE ORAL EXAM (FINAL). THE PARTIAL IS ONLY VALID FOR THE FIRST AVAILABLE EXAM SESSION. AFTER THAT, STUDENTS MUST STUDY AGAIN THE ENTIRE PROGRAMME FOR THE ORAL EXAM.
